    TV Network - ABC

This is, unfortunately, the last episode of "Wipeout" we're going to be getting for a while.  That makes us sad.  "Wipeout" isn't, necessarily, everyone's cup of tea, but it is your cup of tea if you like to see folks going through ridiculously stupid stunts.  And somehow, miraculously, they generally do not get hurt no matter how far they fall or how hard they get smacked.  That always impresses us, wouldn't you think more folks would get hurt on the show?  We would.  Watch this last episode for the foreseeable future tonight and tell us if you don't think it would have resulted in more injuries.

People, it is true, the celebrations may commence presently.  Not only is "Wipeout" back, but Jill Wagner is back with it.  We aren't going to say anything negative about Vanessa Minnillo's presence during "Wipeout"'s fifth season and the distinct lack of Jill Wagner, but make no mistake there was a distinct lack of Jill Wagner.  That will be amended with the show's sixth season, the one that starts tonight.  Instead, this year, there will be a distinct lack of Vanessa Minnillo this eason.  That just goes to show that you can't have it all.  Maybe for season seven we could dump a John and get Jill and Vanessa.

There are some shows which just feel like summer, and "Wipeout" is certainly among them.  Tune in tonight to the show because it proves that summer isn't quite done yet.  Oh, sure, Labor Day may be the unofficial end of summer, but the airing of "Wipeout" tonight is just another way that you can thumb your nose at what the calendar says, thumb your nose at school having started again, thumb your nose at the weather man.  Maybe you'll even be able to hit those naysayers with some sort of overly large comic toothbrush.

As much fun as it may be watching "Wipeout" in winter, it feels like a summer series to us.  Maybe that's our late-20th Century view of the televisual universe, but it's totally how we feel.  What are you going to do about it, strap us into a whole bunch of protective coverings, make us run through an obstacle course that seems designed quite specifically to hit us in our special places, film the whole thing, and then throw it on television with two guys mocking us via voiceover for millions upon millions of people to watch?  Sounds like a great idea for a TV show.

Is there anything more celebratory in this world than the airing of special episodes of regular series which aren't airing regular episodes at the moment?  We think not.  Getting a visit from old friends who aren't currently on the air is enjoyable and, to us, makes it feel like the holidays.  Okay, that could be a slight stretch for a show like "Wipeout" which is just general insanity on a weekly basis (when it's airing) and which doesn't really have any sort of narrative to speak of (airing or not), but we're going with it anyway.  Anything Christmas-y they do on this show will please us... almost as much as seeing people get hit really really hard by things.

Is there one particular person on "Wipeout" whom you remember faceplanting in particularly fantastic fashion, one individual whom you recall getting hit in their privates in extra-spectacular fashion?  Well, there's a chance (we won't say how big a chance) that you'll see them on tonight's all-star episode of the series which makes its name off of people failing in spectacular fashion.

This show has been off the air for just about a month which means, in our world anyway, that it is time again to see people think that they can make some sort of ridiculous jump from one massive inflatable ball to another only to find that it is physically impossible to do so.  And that, dear friends, is exactly what we're going to get every week (twice a week even) all summer long.  Summer really is the perfect time to see people get hit in the privates for money.

    TV Network - ABC

ABC is of the opinion that "Wipeout" need not only air during the summer, that such fluffy filler television can be enjoyed thoroughly in the winter as well.  They may, in fact, be right.  Frankly, it's been kind of chilly for the past month or two and watching fools get hurt while trying to win cash makes us feel all nice and warm on the inside.  We are hoping that they add in some slightly more painful obstacles this time around, really punish these people who want to win the money, but even if they don't, there's still something great about watching those people get clobbered.

Yes, you read the blurb correctly, on tonight's episode of "Wipeout," which does feature three new obstacles, John Anderson and John Henson will take some time out of their busy hosting schedule in order to play the Nintendo Wii version of "Wipeout," which is entitled "Wipeout: The Game."  We hope that they spend some time doing hilarious commentary about the hilarious commentary the game includes, that would be hilarious.  We also hope that they spend more time playing the game than with the contestants tonight, but don't think that will actually occur.

ABC has officially declared it summer.  School's out, brains get turned off, and it's time to see some good old-fashioned nasty sucker punches to the groin.  There is no show that delivers a suck punch quite like "Wipeout" either, so sit back, tune in, turn off you brain, and watch those slightly more insane than you compete for money and completely lose any shot they ever had at dignity.  Oh, we're not criticizing, we'd do it to if we had a shot at the money, it's just that we haven't been selected yet as a contestant.

This summer will mark the third season of "Wipeout."  It seems as though the powers that be are a tad concerned that we've forgotten what "Wipeout" is, because they've scheduled this 'special two-hour sneak peek' of the series.  Our understanding is that rather than actually sneak peeking the season as whole, this is instead a two-hour blind date themed full episode.  Nomenclature aside, you're still going to get to see people get wet, muddy, and pummeled tonight, and isn't that really why you tune in?  It's okay, you can't hide the truth from us, don't even try.
