Stephen Collins, one-time head of the Camden clan, is dropping into "Private Practice" tonight as The Captain Montgomery. Addison is not going to be particularly amused by that. She's also not going to be particularly thrilled when her mom, Bizzy Forbes Montgomery (JoBeth Williams) appears in the second episode and a family secret is revealed. Oh yes, we're talking parents, we're talking family secrets, we're talking high drama and loads of tension on tonight's double-episode. Plus, in the second episode, Betsey and Heather end up in the hospital. There's a lot going on tonight, people, a lot.

With this, its 13th episode of its sixth season, "Private Practice" ends its run tonight. We aren't sure that the practice itself is going to close forever, but it is entirely possible that it will. It is also possible that the world of "Private Practice" ends with a Mayan Apocalypse that completely destroys the universe in which the series takes place... or the universe of the series that doesn't involve Seattle. Listen, we'll be honest with you, we haven't seen the episode and consequently have absolutely no idea what will happen tonight. We are going to watch though and suggest you do as well.

Amelia, now a year sober, goes on a series of horrible blind dates set up by the other doctors; after vowing to be alone, she teams up with James on a procedure, which leads to dinner and them to something neither of them expected.

Does it strike you as vaguely unbelievable that "Private Practice" is hitting episode 100 tonight? This is not "Grey's," this is the "Grey's" spinoff that is making it to episode 100. And, you know what episode 100 means, right? Episode 100 means that the show can now live on in syndication forever and ever and ever. Ah, if only we could get some of the royalty checks. Well, either the royalty checks or the kind of money the doctors on the show clearly make. In any case, tune in tonight and see what hugely amazing event takes place for such a monumental episode.

Isn't that just like doctors? As soon as you figure out exactly when and where they're going to be (this show just switched time periods about a month ago), they decide to go on vacation. Well, as happens in reality so goes television. Do what we do in that situation -- hang around as long as you possibly can with the doctor and maybe, just maybe, they'll decide to bail on their other plans and actually give you some real answers. We totally recommend that course of action with tonight's season finale. If it works there will be a new episode next week, if not, maybe you didn't try hard enough.

On tonight's episode of "Grey's Anatomy" one Caterina Scorsone of "Private Practice" was on. Now, on "Private Practice" Patrick Dempsey and Chyler Leigh from "Grey's Anatomy" will be on. It is one of those 'crossover' episodes. Actually, it's two of those crossover episodes, isn't it? You've got the first one ("Grey's") and then the second one ("Private Practice"). That, in our book, is two. Now, we could understand where you could call it one massive double-episode single crossover, but we're choosing not to do that, we're calling it two episodes and this (with Patrick Dempsey doing the crossing) as the second.

You know what we like? We like it when television series give us more than one new episode in an evening. In the case of dramas, it's like we're getting an entire movie over the course of a single night. "Private Practice" is giving us the twofer tonight and that makes us happy. Yes, it could be that it's a whole lot of bait and switch, that we're going to end up in the waiting room for 45 minutes before finally getting taken in to see the doctor for about a second and a half, but fun things can happen in the waiting room, it isn't always just three month old magazines.

When we say that it seems unbelievable that season five is beginning tonight, we're not making any sort of judgment about the quality of "Private Practice," nor one about its ratings, what we're amazed by is how quickly time passes. This is season five of the "Grey's Anatomy" spinoff show, which is just a tremendous notion. Clearly it is true that time passes more quickly the older you get. We are sure we're going to wake up tomorrow and "Practice" will be starting season 15. Amazing... and scary. Please, someone, make it stop.

Although she is perhaps best known as Paris Geller of "Gilmore Girls," we actually remember her as Samantha Sobriki, wife of Paul Sobriki, the man who stabbed John Carter and Lucy Knight. The Sobriki storyline on "ER" is one that we'll remember forever and Liza Weil's being a part of it has placed her into our consciousness for an equally long period of time. We can't promise that her turn tonight on "Private Practice" will be quite as memorable, but it just might be.

People, Louise Fletcher is going to be on tonight. No, stop, you're on the wrong track. There isn't going to be a murder that only she can solve as the police run around unable to help out whatsoever. You're thinking of Jessica Fletcher. We actually mean Louise Fletcher, the actress who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Nurse Ratched in the classic film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." If she thought her character had a tough time with the folks in that movie, wait till she sees the loons on this show.

It's your private practice, a practice for money, they'll do what you want them to do. Did we change those lyrics around a little from the classic Tina Turner song? Yes, yes we did, we'll freely admit it. However, just because we may have changed the lyrics a little doesn't mean the sentiment's not true, does it? This is the third season finale of "Private Practice," and we think you ought to acknowledge by now that the people on this show do things no other practice would do. Maybe they don't do it (strictly) for money, but they still have a funny way about them, don't they?
