If you're anything like us, your Tuesday last week was insanely busy.  Between new albums, new DVDs, and the start of the television season, Tuesday was ridiculously swamped.  Consequently, good shows may not have been watched, good shows like "NCIS."  The series started up season nine last week, and there is still time, we promise you, to get in on the action while it's still fresh.  We are still early enough in the season that there's a chance that we'll get more answers than questions about some of our favorite characters (Gibbs) and the shadier moments in their past.  This could be the year for answers folks, don't miss it.

Has this been something of a transition year for "NCIS?"  The series did lose one of its favorite cast members this season (poor Ziva), and brought on someone new to replace her, but we aren't really sure how much transitioning there's been and how much the show has just folded her in and kept on pushing.  Tune in to tonight's episode and you tell us what you think.

People, if there is someone you don't mess with, it's Ziva David.  She may appear all nice and innocent and sweet, but she's kind of a ruthless killer when she needs to be.  Her father was murdered and this week, Ziva is off with Tony tracking down the killer.  Not only will we get the usual assortment of "NCIS" characters as well as Ziva in ruthless mode, but will also get Oded Fehr and Marina Sirtis as guest stars on the show.  It really doesn't get much better than that, does it?

Wow, season 10.  Can you imagine it?  Do you remember how the series was a spinoff of "JAG" and for a while went by the title "Navy NCIS" because folks were worried that viewers were going to be confused between "NCIS" and "CSI?"  Well, we do.  We would bet you that Gibbs does as well, Gibbs has a long memory... a very long memory.  Ask DiNozzo if that isn't the case.  Ask Ziva.  Ask McGee or Abby or anyone else.  Gibbs remembers everything.  Gibbs knows everything.  Gibbs can probably even tell you exactly what's going to happen this season.  Not that he would, but he could.  Maybe though he'll give us a hint tonight.

We will happily admit to having regularly watched "NCIS" and are routinely surprised that others don't.  Listen, as we've said to you before, people watch "NCIS," a lot of people watch "NCIS."  The show has some really good ratings, especially for a show that is finishing up year number nine.  We tend to think that's because the guy from "Summer School" is exceptionally good in it, as is the rest of the cast.  Plus, you know, the tales they tell are excellent.  So, there it is, the whole package.  Tune in tonight (you know you watch regularly even if you won't admit it) and see how the season closes.

Are you aware that "NCIS" is, apparently, the top-rated scripted series on television?  Oh yes, it certainly seems that this is the case.  What's more is that the show is going to hit episode 200 tonight.  Now, tell us, what is the last series you can think of which, at episode 200, was the top scripted show on television?  You can't think of another series, can you?  Now, let us ask you this -- do you think that at this point, with the series hitting episode 200, you might finally admit that you watch the show?  Most folks won't admit to watching "NCIS," but the ratings would suggest that a whole lot of you do.

As you well know if you're a fan of "NCIS" -- and, let's face it, "NCIS" is a ridiculously popular show and so even if you don't admit it you probably watch the show and are a fan -- Gibbs has had several wives.  One of his ex-wives is going to be on tonight and she's going to be portrayed by Melinda McGraw.  The awesome thing is that this character was also married to Fornell (Joe Spano is also on this week).  Don't pretend like that doesn't mean anything to you, we've already discussed the fact that you clearly watch the series.  You're excited, we can tell.

We tend to think that "NCIS" has done very well casting members of our team's family.  Just to name two, they've had Robert Wagner on as DiNozzo's father and now this week we're getting Lily Tomlin as McGee's grandmother.  No, it's not that celebrities gave birth to the characters on the show, but the celebrities are playing people who are related to the characters on the show.  Come on now, it would be pretty weird if Robert Wagner was on the show playing himself as Tony's father (and the same for Tomlin as McGee's grandmother).

Tonight wraps up the eighth season on "NCIS."  That means, and you'll know this if you've been watching the past few episodes, we're going to get to see the team face off against the Port-to-Port killer.  If you haven't been following the show, then it's best to think of the Port-to-Port killer as a protege of the Ship-to-Shore killer.  We don't actually know of any killer known as the Ship-to-Shore killer, but it may entice "NCIS" newbies to think the killer has a potentially famous history.

Muse Watson has been on "NCIS" several times before.  If you watch the show, you know him as Mike Franks, certainly an important figure in the life of one Leroy Jethro Gibbs.  Kerr Smith, on the other hand, hasn't (to our recollection) been on yet, but that mistake will be rectified tonight.  Smith is going to be -- and we know you'll find this amazing for "NCIS" -- a lieutenant in the Navy.  As for the other guest stars, expect to see the returns of Sarah Jane Morris and David Dayan Fisher.

In order to make things feel more real than they are, many a television series employs technical advisors.  Tonight's episode of "NCIS" actually features a story by one of the show's technical advisors, Leon Carroll.  He didn't write the episode, and we're fairly certain that he didn't cast Cameron Monaghan ("Shameless") as a guest star, but Carroll did come up with the story itself.  Hopefully that provides an added sense of realism to the episode, and hopefully Monaghan's troubled teen character proves interesting.

Before now we've always thought of Michael Weatherly as Tony DiNozzo, the handsome, smug, and film aware special agent on Leroy Jethro Gibbs' team.  We're going to guess that Weatherly actually does know a good deal about film, or at least the directing of it, as he's going to be stepping behind the camera this week.  Weatherly is directing this episode of "NCIS," and while that may mean we get to see less of him on screen, we're very curious to see if he's able to add a certain flair to the episode as a whole.  Sarah Jane Morris also guest stars this week.

On the TNT series "Leverage," Beth Riesgraf plays the distinctly off-kilter thief, Parker.  We have to wonder whether her character here, Max, will be just as odd as Parker or not.  If she is, maybe it's Riesgraf who is the odd one and the characters just reflect her oddness.  We do certainly hope that she doesn't play the killer tonight, it will change the way we see her forevermore and we're not sure we want that.  We also hope she doesn't play the dead body, because if she's the dead person it really limits the length of her screen time and more Riesgraf is always better Riesgraf.

One of the things that makes "NCIS" stand out above other procedurals is its ability to deftly handle both comedy and serious drama - the show isn't relentlessly dark nor unabashedly humorous, it walks a fine line between the two.  We have a sneaking suspciion that tonight's guest star, Bob Newhart, will almost certainly fall somewhere on the humorous side of things.  It's not that Newhart can't be serious, but the man is known for his comedy so why not play to his strengths?  Let DiNozzo handle the serious bits.

We are not going to say anything as foolish as 'the list of folks who won't be on tonight is almost as long as the list of folks who will' because that would be a ludicrous statement.  There are in fact billions of people who won't be on the show tonight.  We are instead going to list all the guest stars for you.  They are as follows:  Michael Nouri, Arnold Vosloo, T.J. Ramini, Michael O'Neill, and Catherine Dent.  Now, that list is a little too big for a single episode of "NCIS," which means that this is the first part of a two-parter.  Get ready for some action.

Robert Wagner is going to be reprising his role as Tony DiNozzo's father this week or, if you prefer, Anthony DiNozzo, Sr.  Bruce Boxleitner is also going to be on as a muckety muck.  We believe his actual muckety title to be Vice Admiral C. Clifford Chase, but that would make him CCC, and last we checked CCC are the initials of a girls' camp in the Berkshires and that practically means that they're calling Boxleitner a girl, and we think that's hugely unwise.  Is our line of thinking ridiculous?  Potentially, but if Tony DiNozzo, Jr. can relate everything back to movies, why can't we do the same with summer camps?

When we last saw our good pal Gibbs, he was sorting out some personal problems - something about the murder of family and the murder of the murderer being traced back to him and, if we're not mistaken, the security of the whole United States is probably going to come into play at some point.  This isn't the first time "NCIS" has given us a cliffhanger season finale, but it may be the best one that we've gotten.  The drama returns tonight and you can be we'll be there with popcorn and a nice fizzy drink to watch it all go down.

It has been an interesting season for "NCIS."  We've seen the return of old friends and the emergence of a few new ones.  There have also been enemies... tons and tons of enemies.  Perhaps though the most interesting thing about the whole season have been the frenemies.  Who are we kidding, that's not true at all - the most interesting thing this season has been the question of whether or not Tony and Ziva's relationship will progress, or, perhaps, has progressed (because there have definitely been hints).  Here's hoping we get answers tonight.

We already know that Rena Sofer plays the hard-nosed lawyer with a soft spot for Gibbs on "NCIS," but this week we get to meet ZNN reporter Tricia Hutton, played by Ashley Scott, whom we know nothing about.  Hutton, we mean - we know nothing about Hutton.  Scott, on the other hand, we know well.  She's starred on "Jericho" and "Birds of Prey" and "Dark Angel."  What with playing a whole bunch of characters on sci-fi shows, her role here as a reporter should be right in her wheelhouse.  Let's face it, a whole lot of what we see on news networks sounds like otherworldly nonsense.
