Nancy's pregnant! Nancy has the baby! Nancy hates the Mayor! Nancy loves the Mayor! Nancy hates the Mayor! Nancy marries the Mayor! And that's just Nancy.

Whether you've adored this season or "Weeds" or hated it, you have to acknowledge that the week-to-week whiplash has occasionally been a bit extreme.

With an episode titled "All About My Mom," "Weeds" completes its fifth season on Showtime. So much has happened so quickly this season that we honestly don't have a clue what's likely to happen in the finale except that it sounds like somebody will get shot, which isn't exactly a surprise.

Nancy Botwin has undergone a whole lot of things over the course of the eight seasons of "Weeds."  Tonight, we find out (as much as the show wants us to find out) where Nancy ends up.  Will they offer us some sort of nice, packaged ending, the sort that has a cute little ribbon around it?  Will they instead send Nancy down an entirely new road, one which we can only wonder about?  Will it all be tied up, but with a horrible little bow, the kind that makes you retch just a little bit?  If it's the last of these, we hear that marijuana helps settle the stomach.

Mary-Louise Parker has done a whole lot of drug selling on this show.  Can you imagine the quantity of drugs that get sold over the course of 100 episodes for a series about selling drugs?  Even Walter White isn't at episode 100.  Now, if you've followed "Weeds" at all through the years, you're not going to want to miss this week and next, because next week is the last one for the series which makes this week not only episode 100, but also the series' second to last week.  Where, exactly, are things going to end up?

Showtime may have ended the season of several different series a few weeks back, but that's no reason to think that the network is going to recede quietly into the darkness for the summer.  No, tonight we're getting a couple of season premieres from them, including "Weeds."  Mary-Louise Parker is back as Nancy Botwin and is, almost assuredly, not going to have a smooth time of things this go round.  Smoke'em if you got'em, it's time for the new season of "Weeds."

Whether you're still high on this series or not, the season is ending this very evening.  We still, quite frankly, love watching Mary-Louise Parker on a weekly basis, not matter what sort of odd twists, turns, and reframings the series may have.  Actually, there are moments with all the setting changes the series has undergone when we can't help but wonder if the producers have issues with their short-term memory and consequently just opt to move the series rather than focusing on what may have occurred in the past.  Hmmm... now what could it be that is hurting their short-term memory? (we kid, we kid)

You might think that there wasn't a lot a television show could do with this sort of a premise, but "Weeds" is still going strong as its seventh season opens.  Mary-Louise Parker is returning as good old Nancy Botwin, and the show is picking up three years after the events at the end of season six.  Nancy has done her time and is now in New York City.  Is she going to keep her nose clean?  We kind of doubt it.  Seriously, what kind of a question is that?  Would there be a show if she were keeping her nose clean?

The thing about this series is that time tends to pass by so quickly as we watch it.  We absolutely swear that we sit there sucking in every second of it, but by the end have absolutely no recollection of what has happened.  It is as though by the time we've reached the end of each episode the beginning has disappeared from our mind in a puff of smoke.  That and another half-dozen cheap and all too easy jokes about the effects of smoking a little Mary Jane that will make you think less of us (because that's how we roll).

Quite obviously it is not our place to enter into a discussion of whether or not marijuana is appropriate as a medicinal item or for other use.  Our job is solely to inform you of the best televisual options available to you and let you make the right decision.  We're neither buying nor selling that which we like to refer to as 'mary jane.'  That being said, 9 out of 10 medical license holding television critics approve of "Weeds."  Is that a stat we just entirely made up?  It might very well be but we can't remember as our short term memory ain't so good any more.
