Who Do You Think You Are?
Jul 23, 2013 09:00 PMTV Network - TLC
This show began it's journey here in the United States on NBC but was, after three seasons, cancelled. It has now been brought back to life on TLC and promises to give us the same insight into the family history of celebrities as it did before. As we think we noted when the show premiered originally, it kind of makes us sad to see that it's on because it proves that celebrities aren't just special because of who they are, they've been groomed for greatness for centuries, and if that's true, what sort of chance do the rest of us have?

Every episode of "Who do you Think you are?" features celebrities digging into their family history to learn just who they are and where they come from. They get to learn what sort of famous/infamous/outlandish/interesting people begat the folks who begat the folks who begat the folks who begat them (that is just an example of the begatting and should not be taken as the exact number of previous generations at which the series looks). Watch the season premiere tonight and learn the history of one of your favorite celebrities.

With "Chuck" having aired its series finale last week, this week begins the new season of "Who do you Think you are?," the series which examines the family tree of celebrities in an attempt to prove that not only are the more famous, more rich, more important, and more beautiful, but their ancestors are more fascinating than us as well. That's right, as it turns out, celebrities have more interesting histories than the rest of us as well. Amazing, but true. Watch tonight and see if that's not the case.

This is actually a big weekend for the Judd family - their new reality show starts on OWN this Sunday and Ashley is getting profiled on the season finale of "Who do you Think you are?" Ashley actually won't be on the OWN reality show, that's a Wynonna and Naomi thing, but they are all family and I'm sure that they all root for one another - they seem like one of those positive, ra-ra families (we wouldn't know anything about that). We're hoping that as this is the season finale of "Who do you Think you are?" the revelations about Ashley will be greater than just - 'Hey, did you know that you're part of a terribly renowned musical family?'

You may not believe us, we hardly believe ourselves, but Gwyneth Paltrow is going to be the subject of the season two premiere of "Who do you Think you are?" That woman has been everywhere in the past few months. We're qutie excited to learn what deep dark secrets may be hiding in her family tree - she always seems so bright and cheery and well put together, maybe there's something we just don't know lurking underneath it all. With her coming from a showbiz family, there just have to be some skeletons in that closet.

Mr. Big Stuff, who do you think you are? In this case the answer is 'Spike Lee,' because for the season finale of "Who Do You Think You Are?" the show will be examining the history of the famed filmmaker. As many of Lee's films are about identity and identification with one group or another, he seems like the perfect candidate for this series. We only hope that we'll be able to learn new and amazing things about Lee. For instance, wouldn't it be great to learn that he isn't a part of the group with whom he most identifies himself. Seriously, what if Lee wasn't a Knicks fan?

By now we all know that celebrities are just better people than we are, of that there can be no doubt. What this show attempts to do is to take a celebrity (like Lisa Kudrow or Sarah Jessica Parker or Susan Sarandon), and delve into their family history, climb up - or is it down? - that family tree and find out what is hidden amongst the branches. The show is going to figure out just how these celebrities' ancestors have influenced and shaped our world. Oh yes, it is not just the celebrity who is better than us, their whole family is better than ours.
