The inconsistent third season (or fourth volume) of NBC's "Heroes" reaches its conclusion with an episode titled "An Invisible Thread."
Written by series creator Tim Kring, the "Fugitives" finale brings conflict to a head between Nathan and Sylar and finds Matt trying to protect his family. And, although the renewal hasn't been formally announced, the finale lays the groundwork for the next season of "Heroes."

There was a time in this country's history when a large number of people were quite convinced that we had to save the cheerleader in order to save the world. Those days are long gone, the cheerleader has been saved (repeatedly and mostly by herself), but the world still seems to need saving on a fairly regular basis. Tonight, our heroes will, we suspect, save the world for the time being. Should there be a season five we imagine that the world will be in trouble once more, but until that point (or the cliffhanger ending tonight), it'll be all good.

NBC promises that in Monday's (March 23) episode, titled "Cold Snap," we're going to learn the identity of the mysterious Rebel.
Do we still care? Maybe a little.
Meanwhile, Swoosie Kurtz guest stars as a trusted friend of Angela's (Cristine Rose). This is fun since it's a reunion for Kurtz and Bryan Fuller, who has returned to "Heroes" from "Pushing Daisies." Will there be lots of references to mermaids and pies?
We hope so.

It's time for another "Heroes" reboot!
After finishing its "Villains" chapter with a massive fireball that may or may not have left several familiar characters charred in the rubble (our hunch is that everybody will be back), "Heroes" takes another stab at reinvention with a new chapter titled "Fugitives."
Indications from the end of the fall finale have Sen. Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar) working with the President to have all "supers" rounded up into detention camps, which is a bit like what the last chapter was about.

Ratings are falling nearly every week, but fans of "Heroes" are pretty unified in the feeling that the third season has, if nothing else, been better than the second. "Heroes" has its fall finale on Monday, Dec. 15, ending the "Villains" volume of the story. Will this be the end of Robert Forster? Will any of our heroes temporarily die? Tune in.
