There are individuals out there who, for one reason or another, don't like ghosts. We don't understand that particular point of view -- we love ghosts. You see, we are often somewhat lonely and the idea of having ghosts around us at all times kind of lessens our loneliness. That is one of the reason we love "Ghost Hunters," they really put forward the notion that our friends are around us at all times. The series (and hopefully not our phantasmagoric phriends) will be going away after tonight as this is the winter finale. Time to bid them adieu (we're hoping for French ghosts tonight even though this isn't the international version of the show).

In just a few short weeks (we'll let you know), "Ghost Hunters" will celebrate its 200th episode. That is an incredible number. Equally incredible is the fact that today, the series will be starting its 10th season. That is a long time to be on the air. It is a long time to be hunting ghosts. But, despite the fact that they've been at it for such an extended period, there are still more ghosts out there. There are still more evils to be haunted down. There are still more nefarious specters who would like nothing more than to go bump in the night. See if they capture such a villainous ghost tonight.

That is right, tonight is the 10th season premiere of "Ghost Hunters." Now, if you're anything like us, it doesn't matter that these guys have nine seasons under their belt, you're still skeptical about what they're selling. We freely admit to being skeptical, but what we won't do is allow that skepticism to stop our enjoyment of the series. We, much like Spooky Mulder, want to believe. We tune in hoping to see the absolute proof that we crave. Perhaps the season premiere will offer just that.

We know what you're wondering, you're wondering why today, the day before Halloween, they would end the season of "Ghost Hunters." Why wouldn't they extend it until tomorrow so they could do a huge "Ghost Hunters" ghost hunt on Halloween (as has happened in the past). Quite obviously we can't answer that, all we can do is to tell you that tonight's episode of "Ghost Hunters" is the final one in the ninth season and that, with any luck, it will be a massive event in and of itself.

Do you realize that it's been nearly three months since we got the last new episode of "Ghost Hunters?" Well, guess what? It has been nearly three months, but the drought ends tonight. Tonight, Jason Hawes and company (but not Grant Wilson) are back with new episodes. What are they going to do in these episodes? Well, we apologize for being relatively simplistic here, but they're going to hunt for ghosts. They are going to use their skills and seek out the supernatural in whatever form it may take.

We know exactly what you're thinking -- you're ridiculously upset that "Ghost Hunters" just returned with new episodes a month ago and now it's going away again, the season is over. Well, we have some news for you. The series returned over a month ago. You see, the summer premiere was on June 12th and today is July 17th. That means that this is the sixth episode of the summer season and it's all we're going to get. Okay, that point made, we'd like to agree with you on the rest of it. It is indeed unfortunate that "Ghost Hunters" is ending its season tonight, but we suspect that, come some point in the future, there will be more episodes.

Man (or should we say 'ghost'), it feels like an awful long time since the last new episode of "Ghost Hunters" airred. There was this moment when they were going to bring "Ghost Hunters" back in mid-April (the 17th), but then they decided to push until June. In our world this is because whatever happens tonight on "Ghost Hunters" is so hugely and ridiculously terrifying that Syfy needed several extra months to prep us. You have been prepped, haven't you?

Where will the TAPS team be tonight? What kind of ghosts will they see? Will they get incontrovertible proof of something that exists beyond our world? Wait, is it 'beyond our world?' Probably not, probably we should have said something about the reality of the paranormal within our world, not beyond it. We know that they find freaky, odd things on "Ghost Hunters' and we get that TAPS is really good at what they do, but we haven't seen the sort of absolute proof that would turn us into believers. Maybe tonight, this is the mid-season finale after all.

There are, as we have noted in the past, roughly 700 different television reality series in which people hunt for ghosts and/or pretend they are ghosts. And, that count doesn't even include any series where they're searching for Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, or America's Next Top Model. Looking specifically at ghost hunting series, it has always seemed to use that "Ghost Hunters" is the preeminent one -- it certainly isn't one of the "Ghost Hunters" spinoffs. Tonight, the show we like to think started it all (or came close to starting it anyway) ends its season. Maybe they'll actually catch a ghost tonight.

Has it ever struck you how this show just keeps coming back? Eery single time you think it's gone, every time you think you've beaten it, it returns. Forget the bad penny analogy (the show is awesome, not bad), try this one on for size -- the show is like that ghost you keep thinking you've exorcised but which returns once more for a new sequel (and to generally terrify you). It may have had its head chopped off in the previous season, but somehow it's back anyway, and with an all-new head (or potentially headless). Watch tonight and see if they haven't managed to return from the dead once more.

Grant Wilson is leaving the TAPS team. To some that may not mean much, but those in the know are aware that Grant Wilson is one of the founders of the group. Technically, we guess, he's the co-founder and co-lead investigator. It is going to change things. Now, if we know ghosts at all, we know that they're going to want to pull out all the stops tonight and truly scare the bejesus out of Grant as a way to say goodbye. Tell us that you don't want to see the ghosts give Grant the old heave-ho. You can't, can you?

After getting to watch the "Ghost Hunters" go live for hours and hours on end for Halloween, we have to wonder if there's something that they could do tonight to possibly top that. In fact, we've been wondering about that since the Halloween episode aired. The truth is, we've been holding our breath that entire time. Hmmm... holding our breath for a month and yet still typiing? Could we be an apparition? Could TAPS be coming for us in the season finale? Are we going to get hit with some sort of proton pack and disappear? Say it ain't so, say it ain't so.

We can think of no better way to celebrate Halloween than seeing real and true ghosts. The gang from "Ghost Hunters" is going to do their level best to make sure that happens tonight as they do another live special. They are airing a six hour ghost hunting extravaganza tonight, proving to us all that they they ain't afraid of no ghost. So, make sure your proton packs are fully charged and that you don't cross the stream, it's time to put Gozer and all his minions where they belong.

As much as we may love the spinoffs of "Ghost Hunters," we're telling you that there is something special about the original series. We don't exactly know why we feel this way, certainly we don't always feel that way about series ("Stargate: Atlantis" very well may be better than "Stargate: SG-1"), but we do here. We highly recommend you tune in and see what you've been missing if, in fact, you've been missing this series. You really don't need to know anything about what's come before on the show -- they hunt ghosts, that's really all there is. Watch them hunt ghosts.

If you think about it, the idea behind this show is genius - they're never going to run out of episodes that are potentially worth watching - people, sadly, pass away all the time and that means that there is always a new slew of ghosts for them to examine. Plus, even if this was some sort of "Torchwood - Miracle Day" thing and no more deaths occurred, people have been passing away for years so there's a massive backlog of ghosts that the TAPS team can hunt as well. For the Spring finale, they're on the hunt for a soldier.

We know what you're thinking - season six of "Ghost Hunters" just ended in January, how are they possibly beginning a whole new season so soon? Well, the answer to that is that just because a season finished a month ago it doesn't mean that they only stopped filming it a month ago - the time a show is in production can have very little to do with when it airs. Okay, think of it this way - a person could have died 500 years before their ghost first appears or four years before their ghost first appears, the time of death and first reappearance aren't necessarily connected. The new season of "Ghost Hunters" starts tonight and we don't know if they're going after new or old specters.

We always love the episodes of "Ghost Hunters" where the TAPS crew gets involved with famous ghosts, even if they only exist in literature. It will be really interesting to see if they can get Scrooge's good friend to come out and play tonight. We do have to wonder though whether or not it might make for a more interesting episode to go after the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Be. That ghost was downright scary, even in "Mickey's Christmas Carol" where the ghost was played by Pete, he was still terrifying. Seriously, try and tell us that you don't want to see TAPS talk with the scariest ghost ever, the one who shows Scrooge his grave.

We kid you not, as Halloween thing, the folks on "Ghost Hunters" are going to be doing a six hour, live broadcast. Yes, we know, they've done live stuff for Halloween before, we're just continually amazed by it. If the idea doesn't have the wonder and mystique of Geraldo's Capone's vault thing written all over it, we're a monkey's uncle. The truth is though that Geraldo got a bad rap for that thing, there was a lot of fascinating background and history thrown in there and we expect to get a lot of background and history thrown in here too. It'll also be great to see if Slimer will appear on cue, because they're totally going to need him to.Â

No more fooling around with the trainees or those who have had to go abroad to make a name for themselves, the tried and true and powerful and real and original (maybe) Ghost Hunters are back. We assume that they're the original ones because they don't have some catchy second part to their series title like "Academy" or "International" or "Men of Mystery" or "The Next Generation" or even "The Wrath of Khan." We like all those spinoffs and off-shoots and reimaginings, but sometimes it's nice to get to watch the old-school guys and that's what we have here.

The regular bunch of ghost hunters are teaming up with John Gates of "Destination Truth" for this sixth season premiere, a premiere which also marks the series' 100th episode. They are venturing to Alcatraz to explore all that famed one-time prison has to offer. We are not particularly sure if we believe in ghosts, but if we were to believe in them, it does seem likely that Alcatraz would contain more than one. At least that is if the rules of ghosts as we understand them are correct (we can only really go by what we see in the movies).
