"Desperate Housewives" has, more often than not, been good at ending their seasons. What do they have in store for us this time out? Another wedding? A murder? An affair? A shocking reveal? Or, could it perhaps be the most shocking event of all? Do the producers of the series dare to do that which they have never attempted? Might they, as a special event for the season finale, have everyone on the show act in a completely sane and rational manner? Nah, they'd never go in that direction... or would they?

We will freely admit to having missed some episodes of "Desperate Housewives" during the last few seasons. It is something we won't say we regret but which does cause us pangs of guilt. You can bet that we'll be watching tonight though because tonight is the two hour series finale. We look forward to getting that one last look at Wisteria Lane before we load our moving boxes onto a truck and drive off into the night (we're totally leaving the kid chained in the basement though).

They have a whole lot of work to do wrapping up this season on "Desperate Housewives." There remain, heading into the season finale, a whole bunch of storylines wide open. Plus, unless we're mistaken, the show will be opening up a whole new storyline or two tonight and we're dying to know what the next mystery will be. Even if the "Desperate Housewives" mysteries haven't always been fantastically developed, we've always wanted to know what they are about and where they are heading.

Whatever happened to J.R. Ewing? No, don't tell us, the truth is that as long as "Dallas" may have run and as many made-for movies/retrospectives/behind-the-scenes ancillary things that have been made focusing on the show, we'll never know. We know that he was shot and that he apparently didn't die, but all the backstabbing, petty bickering, and foolishness was never something we could understand. It is not a show that is in any way similar to "Desperate Housewives," nope, not a bit. Yeah. And hey, tonight they'll have something else in common - Larry Hagman. Hagman guest stars tonight as a not-so-nice fellow who'd like to marry Lynette's mom. Fun!

Does it bother anyone else the way it bothers us that John Schneider could be Brian Austin Green's father? It didn't strike us before seeing this listing that such a thing was possible, but in fact Schneider is playing Keith's father this week and Keith is played by Brian Austin Green (ipso facto...). We do have to say that we like this entire Keith/Bree storyline, although we don't particularly believe in the long term viability of the relationship, particularly as Schneider is probably closer to Marcia Cross' age than Green.

While the flyover description is accurate, it is also incomplete. Dave Koz and Dana Glover aren't the only two guest stars tonight - Brian Austin Green will be on once more as will Lainie Kazan. Those two have already been on this season though will Koz and Glover hasn't. As for Koz, he'll playing Koz while Glover will be playing a housewife who happens to be a singer who happens to play with Koz. It all gets so confusing so quickly, doesn't it? Why don't you just tune in and see what happens for yourself.

We have been informed (by the series itself) that Paul Young is back this year... at least for a little while. We kind of hope that he's back for the entire season and that they revisit the original mystery. We were never quite satisfied with how that ended and have been a whole lot less than satisfied with the way every singly mystery since has played out. There's still time to right the ship though and it is our sincere belief that bringing back Paul Young is an attempt to do just that. We'll all just have to find out together. And, did we mention that Vanessa Williams is on this season, too?

The last time we saw Julie Benz on a Sunday night was the season finale of "Dexter," and I think we all remember what happened there. We expect no such similar activities tonight on "Desperate Housewives," where Benz plays a stripper who Susan decides to help out. We have to wonder if Susan will be teaching her any of the moves that she herself showed off on the pole the other week or if Susan is going to try to get Benz's character out of the life. We assume the answer is the latter but are certainly pushing for the former.

Tonight's episode is entitled "If..." and asks that all-important question: what if I'd done something differently? What if I'd made a different choice back in the day? What if the person I love were somehow changed? In terms of this show, Susan will contemplate what would have happened if she'd stayed with Karl. Carlos will wonder what life would be like if Gaby were an over-protective mother. It is both a look back and a look forward, a questioning and a contemplation of a wholly different life. Kind of a nice way to start the new year.

Is Susan the bride under the veil who is about to marry Mike? Or is it someone else? How will Lynette and Tom handle having another pair of twins? Season six should provide answers to these questions, as well as introduce other dramatic, outrageous storylines.
