Dancing with the Stars

It is time, dear readers, to get your dance on. And, by 'your dance' we mean that you get to sit down in front of the TV and watch other people dance which is, in fact, the only way we ever actually do any dancing whatsoever. Trust us, it is so much better to have people dance for you than for you to actually have to dance yourself. There is a certain amount of joy in watching famous people dance as we sit there with a hot fudge brownie sundae (with chocolate ice cream... or coffee, coffee ice cream is good, too). Give it a try and tell us thta it doesn't work.

Tonight, "Dancing with the Stars" will begin season 19. That is a pretty incredible feat for a primetime reality series... or any series at all, really. Sitting at the judges table again this season will be Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Len Goodman. Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews are going to be hosting once more, and you can bet that we'll be watching because we love to see the celebrities dance. They do it usually so well, and when they don't, they ham it up and it's just wonderful that way, too.

We will not lie to you, we were hoping Drew Carey was going to walk away with the big old "W" on "Dancing with the Stars." Truthfully, until they crown someone else tonight, we think he may still have a shot (despite having been eliminated about a month ago). But, whether it is Carey or not (fingers crossed), there will be a winner and you should watch because well, it's viewers like you who make shows like this happen.

Tonight is, if we're counting correctly, the seventh episode of the season for "Dancing," and being that there are only 11 in total this go-round including the Tuesday night where a winner is declared, we really are getting down to the nitty-gritty. What do you think? Has the changes this season worked? Do you think the dancing has been up to snuff? Do you think you know who is going to win it all?
Mar 17, 2014TV Network - ABC
Here we are, season 18 of "Dancing with the Stars," and as you can see, there are plenty of one-time celebrities out there who wish to rekindle their flame. That isn't to say that every star you see on "Dancing with the Stars" falls into that category, but we would be lying if we said that none of them did and we're not the sort to lie about such things. It is too early to watch tonight's episode and figure out who is definitely going to be taking home the crown, but it isn't too early for you to figure out whom you want to see win it all.

So, this is it, the end of the 17th cycle of "Dancing with the Stars," the first cycle to only air one night a week, except for tonight, where it's airing on Tuesday night. As you would expect, tonight we'll be learning which team will be crowned champion for this cycle. Tune in and find out if your pick made it.

"Dancing with the Stars" is returning with a slightly new format this year. What won't change is the presence of Tom Bergeron and Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman and Brooke Burke-Charvet. What also won't change is the whole notion that there will be dancing and there will be stars. Well, not just that, the stars themselves will dance, and they'll dance with professional dancers and we will all stop and stare. What will change? Well, the show is only going to be on Monday nights, not Monday and Tuesday nights. How does the voting and eliminations and dismissals work in a once-a-week format? Watch and see.

Tell us, tell us truly, was this your favorite season ever of "Dancing with the Stars?" We aren't quite sure where we would rank it amongst the seasons we've seen, but we do know exactly whom we'd have win the whole shebang tonight. Oddly though, we're not a contestant. We totally should be. We can't dance (don't ask us), but we're not always entirely sure that the folks who are on the show can. Whether they can or they can't, tonight is the season finale and our last chance to level our own personal critiques.

The show kicks off with a troupe performance choreographed by Jason Gilkison, after which Jason Derulo and Emeli Sande perform their newest singles; combining votes from both performances from Monday night, one couple is eliminated.
Apr 09, 2013
Brad Paisley visits the studio to perform his latest hit, "Southern Comfort Zone" live, after which international superstars Andrea Bocelli and Jennifer Lopez perform "Quizas, Quizas, Quizas" as a duet; a third couple is eliminated.
Apr 08, 2013
The remaining 10 couples work on one unlearned style of dance that reflects a memorable year of their lives that must also include a small solo; Andy and D.L. hope to bounce back after garnering the lowest scores for prom week.

The show is settling into its regularly scheduled Tuesday night results show time slot tonight. We are still early on in the competition so there is still a whole lot of weak dancing and people whom, maybe, you think shouldn't be around. Will one of them go home tonight or will your favorite couple be sent packing? Of course, that question presupposes that whomever you like on the show is deserving. But, they probably are, aren't they? You aren't one of those 'vote for the worst' types, are you? No, of course you're not.

Yes, it is true, "Dancing with the Stars" has now been on the air long enough to do an all-star edition So, if you didn't feel like Bristol Palin was around long enough last time, you now have another chance to see her attempt to win the whole thing. Other celebrities returning to the show are Kirstie Alley, Kelly Monaco, Pamela Anderson, Emmitt Smith, Shawn Johnson, Apolo Anton Ohno, Helio Castroneves, Gilles Marini, Joey Fatone, and Drew Lachey. One other celebrity will also be selected to appear based on fan votes. It promises to be quite the exciting season of "Dancing with the Stars," so get those sparkly outfits ready.

Thus endeth another season of "Dancing with the Stars." As you well know, we began this season a few months ago with a smattering hopeful celebrities and other celebs who thought that it would simply be a laugh to be on the reality show. Over the weeks, we have whittled down the contestants until but two remained. And now, tonight, we will find out exactly which celebrity and professional dancing partner will win the coveted "Dancing with the Stars" prize.
May 21, 2012TV Network - ABC
We don't want to suggest that we are any sort of dance, dance, dance, dance, dance machine (as we have stated in the past), but we are quite convinced that we could dance better than some of the folks on"Dancing with the Stars." Could we do better than either of the finalists? Almost certainly not, but when the show decides to do a "Dancing with the Nowhere Near Famous" edition, you can bet we'll throw our hats into the ring. For now--for tonight--just know that this is your last chance to see the finalists twirl across the floor while voting can still be done, for tomorrow night the winner will be announced.

This season's "Dancing with the Stars" is going to feature several celebrities, including stars of stage and/or big screen and/or little screen and/or sports dancing with professional dancers before the eyes of our watchful judges. You would not be wrong to think that someone might get injured, that there might be a scandal of some sort, and that popularity will determine who gets removed at some stages as opposed to the quality of one's dancing being the deciding factor.
Some things never change and we like it that way.

The "Dancing with the Stars" season comes to an end tonight. We are not sure that it would be honest of us to tell you that this has been the absolute best season of the series, but we're really not sure that it's been the worst one either. We have been following it relatively closely (so that we can we the HitFix TV Predictions Game) and we have selected exactly whom we want to win. As of this writing, we are currently tied for first place in our league which just proves that even if we don't have twinkle toes (they're more Twinkie toes), we can spot who does.

Tomorrow night we will discover who has won this season of "Dancing with the Stars" which means that tonight is your last night to watch the finalists perform and to attempt to determine whom you want to win. We, certainly, have made our pick, but we can't tell you because it would hurt our status in the Predictions game. That being said, we think that all the smart money is on our top choice so perhaps we're not being as sly as we think we're being. Do not think that we're going to give you our pick because of that though, no, you're not going to trick us into giving anything away.

"Dancing with the Stars" is firing up its new season tonight and we have to say, we're pretty excited to see celebrities dance. We would also say that we're pretty excited to see which dancers manage to get themselves injured this year, but we were told growing up that looking forward to such things is in hugely bad taste, so we're not going to say it. We aren't even going to suggest to you that it is some sort of unspoken understanding between the two of us, it really is in pretty bad taste (and, for the record, nothing we actually want to see... come on, what do you think of us?).
May 24, 2011TV Network - ABC
After all the hoopla, all the balloons, all the confetti, there is one thing that will remain -- a distinct knowledge of who won this season of "Dancing with the Stars" and who came in second. And, when it comes right down to it, when you focus on the core of the issue, isn't winning what it's all about? At least, it would be for us. We do wonder exactly how the stars feel about their victory -- is winning here that last feather in the cap that they need to feel like complete fulfilled individuals or will they feel compelled to return to for an all-star edition of the show down the line?

We know, we know -- it feels like the last season of "Dancing with the Stars" just ended. It didn't, that was back in December, it's been more than three months since the last new episode of the series. As you may know, as you get older, time seems to pass more quickly. We don't want to suggest that it is this change in perception which is affecting your outlook on the world, but we do think you ought to consider it. This is, after all, the 12th cycle of "Dancing with the Stars." Yup, the 12th cycle. Not that we want you to feel old or anything.

Don't get the wrong impression, it's not that we like to see people either lose or cry, it's just that both losing and crying are inevitable in life and it adds to the drama that surrounds all season finales of reality competition shows. If we had studied anything sensible in school we'd now be able to talk about pathos or hubris or something like that, but as we didn't (stupid public health degree), we won't. Instead we'll close by reminding you that this is the season finale and that the dancing is going to be done for a while after tonight, so it's your last chance to see the stars twinkle those toes for a while.

We understand that the election taking place for state and national offices today is incredibly important. We also understand however that there's a difference between being interested in what takes place in our country and watching the election returns slowly come in hour after hour on end. It is possible to care about the country and politics and to still watch regular television tonight. See, look at "Dancing with the Stars," they're doing their usual elimination episode this week, nothing special or different at all. Except, you know, for the 90 minute length, just pretend that's not happening (at least in regards to this discussion).
May 25, 2010TV Network - ABC
Inexplicably, we're rooting for Adam Carolla tonight. We ourselves wouldn't have guessed as much, but then we spent a long time thinking about the various stars on the show, their pros, their cons, and their twinkle toes. All of that thinking led us to the conclusion that we'd really, really like to see Adam Carolla walk away as the champion. Yes, we know that he's not on this season and that he didn't win back when he was on, but for some reason he's the guy we want to see crowned champion.

Have you been feeling a distinct lack of bounce in your step? Is the tang gone from your tango? Is your name Stella, have you been desperately trying to figure out how to get your groove back, and are younger men not helping in that endeavor? How about trying a whole new cycle of "Dancing with the Stars?" The dance-irific show is returning tonight and a whole new group of stars will be vying to see who can best resuscitate their careers via a really rocking two-step.

A moment both happy and heartbreaking, it's time to declare a winner on this season's "Dancing with the Stars." There has been some mighty fine - and mighty less than fine - dancing in the competition this Fall, but that doesn't mean that more than one of our teams can win. In fact, even if every team had performed exceptionally, only one team would walk away as the winners. Tune in to the two-hour event and find out just which team that will be.

The ninth season premiere features a second night of dancing as celebrities pair with professional dancers in hopes of achieving the ultimate price, a disco ball trophy. And the adoration of the viewing audience.

An all new cast of celebrities hits the dance floor in the ninth season premiere of this popular show. As professional dancers pair up with stars from all ranges of the celebrity spectrum, lots of booty shaking can be expected. However, the real question is, will there be another Gilles Marini-esque contestant this season? We sure hope so.

The season is young, but already injuries have done a pretty good job of eliminating contestants. On Tuesday night, the judges and voters combine to eliminate the season's first pair.
One of those injury-eliminated contestants, Jewel, will perform on the show, as will Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
In a new twist, the two couples receiving the fewest votes will dance for their lives, redoing one performance from Monday night. The judges' votes for the dance-off will replace their votes from Monday, which will then be combined with the popular vote to determine the eliminated couple. It's all very complicated.
