The Sound of Music
Dec 23, 2012 07:00 PMTV Network - ABC
As motion pictures go, "The Sound of Music" just about has it all. There is love and laughter and music and sweeping vistas and romance and evil and it's based on a true story. Tonight, ABC will be showing the perennial favorite starting at 7pm (eastern and pacific). If you watch you just may find that Christmas spirit somewhere deep inside of you. And, if somehow it doesn't appear, you'll still find yourself singing 'I am 16 going on 17...' for a few days afterwards. No? Is that not your cup of tea? Perhaps then you'll be singing 'So long, farewell...' instead.

Produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, NBC is going live tonight with a three hour version of "The Sound of Music," based on the Broadway show (as opposed to the film). Carrie Underwood is playing Maria and Stephen Moyer is Baron Von Trapp. What else can we tell you about it? Well, unquestionably, the hills will be (a)live with the sound of it all. But, seriously, this could prove to be an exceptionally interesting event and, who knows, if it's a success it may pave the way for future live versions of similar classics. Audra McDonald, Christian Borle, and Laura Benanti are also amongst the cast.

It is a Sunday during the holiday season, a Sunday right around Christmas day. That can be only one thing - it's time to watch "The Sound of Music." The hills, we tell you, are alive with that sound, and we greatly encourage you to feel alive yourself by listening to said sound. As you finish digesting tonight's leftovers of last night's turkey and plum pudding, wouldn't it be great to watch a movie that you've seen so many times before, an undemanding movie with obviously defined bad guys, great music, and a sappy love story? Plus, if you're 16 going on 17, you could learn some lessons on how to woo.
