Ryan Phillipe is joining the cast as a regular tonight for the show's fifth and final season. He'll be joining Glenn Close and Rose Byrne. Also appearing on a semi-regular basis throughout the season are folks like Jenna Elfman, Judd Hirsch, M. Emmett Walsh, and Victor Garber. "Damages" hasn't exactly been known for pulling punches during the shows first four seasons and now that the show is definitively ending, expect them to really go all out. Frankly a Patty Hewes with no future scares us.

With five seasons in the can, "Damages" hasn't exactly had a bad run as a television series. Whatever anyone may argue about the switch from FX to DirecTV original, we can tell you this -- it has certainly allowed the show to continue going for an extra two years and as fans will tell you, there is nothing at all wrong with that. See how it all ends for Patty and Ellen tonight. The truth is we don't know what we're rooting for, we just know that we want the show to go out big.

As the network TV season gets started, the cable one is coming to a close. Well, it is in some ways anyway, and one of those ways is with the finale of "Damages" tonight. The legal show with all the weird twists and turns and time jumps and double-crosses and triple-crosses and changing of the main character ends the season tonight. You should tune in expecting to scratch your head a little, go 'Hmmm...' a little, and to generally wonder whether everything which takes place tonight was conceived of at the beginning of the season or something they worked out later. It should also be a whole lot of fun.

This is it, after three seasons on FX, "Damages" is finally premiering its fourth season tonight and is doing so on DirecTV. The new season promises to have a new case, some new characters, and to throw in some new thrills for this legal drama. Our understanding is that the case has something to do with a security firm run by John Goodman's character, but if you're placing any sort of bet on who the bad guy is this time out, we'd just like to draw your attention to Dylan Baker's presence this season. Dylan Baker is really good at doing bad.

Twist! Turn! Flashback! Twist! Turn! Twist! Twist! Turn! Twist! Acting! Ah "Damages," never before has a show so perfectly illustrated that whole "what a tangled web we weave" saying. The third season has been quite the rollicking ride and we hope you'll forgive us if we can't help but think of Jon Lovitz every time we watch. Even if we don't understand quite what is happening with the story every week, the words "master thespian" come to mind as each actor manages to extract the knife from their character's back and deftly put it into someone else's.

When we last left "Damages," the twists and turns were flying fast and furious. We can all expect more of the same this season, as well as a continuation of the outstanding acting that has made this series such an award show darling. Even if we don't always understand what exactly is taking place on the show, we're thoroughly convinced that Glenn Close and Rose Byrne are pretending that they're Patty Hewes and Ellen Parsons, respectively. Of course, with the various twists that occur here, we wouldn't be all that surprised if it turned out that Patty was Ellen and vice versa. Maybe that reveal will happen tonight!

Look, every week that passes, "Damages" confuses us in new and different ways and we aren't even exactly sure what it is that Ellen and Patty and the gang are going to have to wrap up at the end of the season. Who lives? Who dies? Who gets what they deserve and who gets off scott free? And will we understand how it ends?
One way or the other, watching Glenn Close, Rose Byrne and the rest of the cast act up a labyrinthine storm is always a pleasure, so we're sad that the April 1 episode will be the second season's finale.
