TV Ratings: MLB All-Star Game and Derek Jeter lead FOX Tuesday
The 2014 MLB All-Star Game came close to Xeroxing the ratings for last year's Midsummer Classic, as the non-stop tribute to the retiring Derek Jeter led FOX to Tuesday victory in all measures.
The All-Star Game, which actually started at 7:30 ET and then continued well outside of FOX's standard primetime two-hour block, took only a small bite out of NBC's "The Night Shift" and didn't really impact anything else on Tuesday.
On to the numbers, remembering that FOX's figures are time period data and not actually the specific numbers for the All-Star Game...
Among adults 18-49, FOX averaged a 3.0 rating for Tuesday primetime, tops in the key demographic. NBC was second with a 1.7 key demo rating, followed by the 0.9 key demo rating for both ABC and CBS. The CW averaged a 0.2 key demo rating for Tuesday.
Overall, FOX averaged an estimated 10.95 million viewers and a 6.7 rating/12 share for Tuesday night, far ahead of the 7.72 million viewers and 4.8/8 for NBC on the night. CBS was third with 6.4 million viewers and a 4.3/7, followed by ABC's 3.5 million viewers and 2.4/4. The CW averaged 541,000 viewers and a 0.4/1 for the night.
[Note that those are 8-10 primetime numbers for FOX. The network averaged 10.59 million viewers and a 2.9 key demo rating from 8-11.]
8 p.m. - FOX's first hour of All-Star Game coverage averaged 11.07 million viewers and a 3.0 rating among adults 18-49. NBC's "America's Got Talent" averaged 8.43 million viewers and a 1.9 key demo rating, ahead of the 7.85 million viewers and 0.9 key demo rating for CBS' "NCIS" repeat. There was a large drop to the 3.37 million viewers and 0.8 key demo rating for "Extreme Weight Loss" on ABC. The CW's "Arrow" repeat averaged only 550,000 viewers and a 0.1 key demo rating (including a "0" share in the key demo), the sort of numbers that almost make one yearn for "Famous in 12."
9 p.m. - The All-Star Game averaged 10.83 million viewers and a 3.1 rating among adults 18-49 to lead FOX in the 9 p.m. hour. NBC's "America's Got Talent" rose a little to 8.505 million viewers and a 2.0 key demo rating in second. CBS' "NCIS: Los Angeles" repeat was third with 6.17 million viewers and fourth with a 0.9 key demo rating, compared to the 3.75 million viewers and 1.0 key demo rating for ABC's "Extreme Weight Loss." The CW's "Supernatural" repeat averaged 533,000 viewers and a 0.2 key demo rating.
10 p.m. - If you include FOX in this hour's calculations, the All-Star Game averaged 9.875 million viewers and a 2.8 rating among adults 18-49 to lead. NBC's "The Night Shift" finished first if FOX is out of the equation, averaging 6.215 million viewers and a 1.2 key demo rating in the 10 p.m. hour. A "Person of Interest" repeat drew 5.18 million viewers and a 0.9 key demo rating for CBS. ABC's "Celebrity Wife Swap" averaged 3.385 million viewers and a 1.0 key demo rating.
