TV Ratings: 'Big Brother' rises, but 'Extant' droops on Wednesday
CBS won Wednesday night in all measures, but the network's performance was mixed. While "Big Brother" posted tiny weekly gains, Halle Berry's "Extant" dropped well over a million viewers, though at least its decline in the key demo was small.
On to the numbers...
Among adults 18-49, CBS averaged a 1.5 rating for Wednesday night, tops in the key demographic. NBC was second with a 1.1 key demo rating, followed by FOX's 1.0 key demo rating and the 0.9 key demo rating for ABC. The CW averaged a 0.3 key demo rating.
Overall, CBS averaged an estimated 6.54 million viewers and a 4.1 rating/7 share for Wednesday primetime, ahead of the 5.55 million viewers and 3.5/6 for NBC on the night. FOX's 3.63 million viewers and 2.3/4 edged out the 3.53 million viewers and 2.4/4 for ABC. The CW averaged 724,000 viewers and a 0.5/1 for the night.
8 p.m. - "Big Brother" won the 8 p.m. hour with 6.26 million viewers and a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49 for CBS, topping the 5.56 million viewers and 1.2 key demo rating for NBC's "America's Got Talent" encore. ABC's repeats of "The Middle" and "The Goldbergs" averaged 3.73 million viewers and a 0.8 key demo rating, compared to the 3.71 million viewers and 1.1 key demo rating for FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance." The CW's repeat of "Arrow" averaged 971,000 viewers and a 0.3 key demo rating.
9 p.m. - "Extant" averaged 7.87 million viewers in its second week for CBS and also won the 9 p.m. hour with a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. ["Extant" added viewers at the half-hour and didn't drop in the key demo. So there's that.] NBC's "America's Got Talent" was second with 6.28 million viewers and a 1.4 key demo rating. FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance" was third with 3.55 million viewers, but fourth with a 1.0 key demo rating, compared to the 3.44 million viewers and 1.1 key demo rating for repeats of "Modern Family" and "The Goldbergs" on ABC. The CW's "The 100" repeat averaged 476,000 viewers and a 0.2 key demo rating.
10 p.m. - A "Criminal Minds" repeat won the 10 p.m. hour with 5.49 million viewers and a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 for CBS, topping the new dramas on ABC and NBC in both measures. "Taxi Brooklyn" was second with 4.805 million viewers and a 0.8 key demo rating, followed by the 3.43 million viewers and 0.7 key demo rating for ABC's "Motive."
