Pre-credit sequence. I miss Penner. Dangrayne -- Now we know the origin of that name -- returns to camp in the aftermath. Abi says it's clear to her now that Skupin, Blair Warner, Malcolm and Denise have a Top 4 alliance. Yes, Abi. It's "clear" to you because Jonathan Penner told you EXACTLY THAT. You're not Sherlock Holmes. Abi does, however, begin feeding Carter's insecurities about not being part of that alliance and reminds him of the Imaginary Immunity Idol she "found" last week. Blair Warner thinks Penner is correct about the quality of Malcolm's game, so she knows that going to the end with Malcolm and Denise might be a mistake. However, if we know anything about Blair Warner, it's that she likes to be true to her word. Also, she's not good at this game.
How can this moment be cherished without Sprint? It's Day 31 and we're jumping right into a Reward Challenge. In this challenge, each player will be paired with... a loved one! Skupin is paired with his son, who proves he's a True Skupin, by nearly tripping and falling flat on his face as he runs to hug his dad. Much emotion. And grunting. Carter is paired with his rather youthful mom. Much emotion. Denise is paired with her husband. Much emotion. Blair Warner is joined by... TOOTIE! Oh. Wait. I kid. No, Kim Fields was not available, so Blair Warner is joined by her brother. Much emotion. And sobbing. Even Jeff Probst is impressed by how much emotion Blair Warner shows. Abi's mom comes out to prove that not everybody hates Abi. Much emotion. And Portuguese. And, finally, Malcolm's goofball brother Miles comes out.
How deep is your love? Oh right. Challenge. They have to toss muddy bags to their partners and then use those muddy bags to knock over a selection of targets. Yeah. It's not an overly complicated task. Want to know what they're playing for? The winner gets an afternoon and night with their loved one back at camp. That's not quite as good as going far away and getting a picnic, but it'll do. It's funny watching Abi's mom mock her for feeble throwing. Miles and Malcolm win Reward and Miles pile-drives his brother into the ground. Time now for the perennially awkward moment in which the Family Reward winner has to determine which bonds they want to validate and whose love they want to thwart. Malcolm makes the correct choice, for emotional fragility reasons, and allows Blair Warner and her brother to get more time together. He's allowed one more and he lets the Skupins spend the night. That's probably the right play also. Much emotion as the other family members depart. "Those are my allies. I need to keep them close," Malcolm says of his choice. Yup. It makes sense.
Let Justice be done. Back to camp and Malcolm, Skupin and Blair Warner are playing tour guides. Blair Warner's brother is impressed she's made it to Day 31. Her brother, whose name seems to be "Justice," is 20 years younger, but he's full of wisdom or somesuch. "I haven't really missed Malcolm," jokes Miles, who Malcolm calls "a knucklehead." Malcolm is already concerned that his class clown brother could say something stupid and mess up his game. Soon, Skupin Jr. is climbing trees and falling out of trees and you can see that Skupin Sr. is proud of his bloodied son. Toss him in the fire, Skupin! Blair Warner tells her brother about her alliance, but also tells bro that she doesn't want Malcolm in the Final Four, even admitting to her failed effort to blindside Malcolm. "I've made a lot of mistakes out here, Justice," Blair Warner says. "I bet," he replies. "My job is to remind my sister to think of this as a game," Justice tells Blair Warner, warning her that Malcolm is a threat. In a Skupin/Blair Warner family parlay, Justice comes right out and suggests that they should blindside Malcolm. "I do know it's a game. And I love this game," Blair Warner says. Suddenly, Justice is fixated on voting Malcolm out and he doesn't get Blair Warner's fidelity to her word. Blair Warner's mind is suddenly clear! She has a huge smile and declares that she can play this game. Suddenly, she wants to play the game to win.
Though the Heavens Fall. Blair Warner is leading a prayer square with Justice and Skupin and Skupin Jr. She even asks God to bless her plan, but suggests that if he'd rather somebody else win, that's fine too. OH FOR [BLEEP]'S SAKE. Seeing that revival meeting, Malcolm realizes that in giving Reward to the folks who would bond over Jesus, he may have made a gaffe. "I'm afraid that her brother, who seems like a very level-headed, intelligent guy, may have snapped her back to her senses," Malcolm says of Blair Warner. "I don't know what Jesus Christ would look like playing 'Survivor,'" Justice giggles. "Sadly, a little bit like Malcolm," Skupin laughs stupidly. "And he'd probably play like Carter," Blair Warner guffaws meaninglessly, before she says that she doesn't think God chooses sides on reality TV shows. Ugh. Then leave the poor Guy/Gal ALONE.
God weighs in. Family is gone. Immunity is back up for grabs. There's a balance beam component and then bag collecting and then players have to make a pole and hit a target. First to collect three bags is Carter, followed by Skupin and then Lisa and Malcolm and finally Abi, whose apathy causes Jeff Probst to yell at her. "That took forever," Probst tells Abi after she drops one of her bags and dawdles to the pole-building. Several poles fail, with Carter and then Malcolm tapping the target, but failing to put it in. Malcolm knocks the target over and GOD'S WILL IS DONE. Or something. "I'm so bummed. I was so ready to play this game hard and make a big move," Blair Warner laments, as if she only had one chance to play and God denied her.
Abi would definitely be Slytherin. Blair Warner is probably Hufflepuff. Malcolm and Denise are Gryffindor. Skupin's a Muggle. "It's the most relaxing feeling I've felt this entire game," says Malcolm, who's relieved that his mind gets a break. With one Idol on his neck and one in his pocket, he knows that he's in the Final 4. "That door was closed," Blair Warner tells Skupin, regarding God's plan. Blair Warner doesn't understand God's will, but Skupin figures God has something waiting for them at the Final 4. Or else God doesn't care about "Survivor"? So now Blair Warner and Skupin are looking for signs for God about the choice between Carter and Abi. "Do we go for peace at camp or strategy?" Malcolm tells Skupin, laying out the choice. Carter wanders over in the midst of this conversation. "Out of respect for this game and out of respect for me, keep me around," Carter tells them bluntly. And then the castaways compare their toes. And they boil a crab. Over food, Abi takes the opportunity to be obnoxious about who has voted for who. I'm not sure what hornet's nest Abi thinks she's stirring, though she vows to play her Hidden Immunity Idol next Tribal. Is anybody taking this lie seriously? "She's like a soul-sucker. She's like the Dementors from Harry Potter," Malcolm says of Abi. "It is not a cultural thing. It's her personality," Denise maintains, though she adds, "It's the culture of Abi." Facing ire from all sides, Abi digs up her Fantasy Idol and notes, "If you tell a lie long enough, everyone starts to believe it and I'm convinced in my own lie. Even I am believing myself now," Abi says. Malcolm knows that they'd be making a bad strategic decision in voting out Abi to keep Carter. "Plain and simple, cut and dry: If Abi goes home tonight, it's because she's a bitch," Malcolm says.
Tribal Council. The Jury enters. Penner hasn't shaved and it's unclear if he's even bathed since his elimination. Malcolm says that he felt safe even without Immunity, prompting Probst to ask for a "reminder" on who the Group of Four is, as if Probst has been so busy with other things that that information just slipped his mind. Carter says he deserves to be in the game and everybody else should honor that by keeping him around. "I don't know if Carter's more of a son to me or more of a friend to me," Skupin says of clicking with Carter. Blair Warner, though, comes right out and announces she'd rather sit next to somebody she could beat than somebody who deserves it. Carter looks concerned. Abi says she's confident, what with her Hidden Immunity Idol. "The only thing we can go on is what Abi's sharing with us," Denise says. Malcolm figures if Abi really had an Idol she'd be leveraging it more. This leads to a debate as to whether Abi brings baggage or is baggage or something, while Denise insists Abi hasn't played a balanced enough game to win.
The Vote. Carter writes Abi's name down. Abi writes Carter's name. And a frowny face. Probst goes to tally. Abi doesn't play her fake Idol. The votes: Carter. Abi. Carter. Carter. CARTER. [Abi crosses herself. So this must have been God's plan? God's Team Abi? I'm so confused by God's contributory role on this season of "Survivor."] "I can understand it, but it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. They're playing with their heads, not their hearts at this point," Carter says. He seems to mean this as a bad thing.
Bottom Line. Is the sense that Carter was so bland and inoffensive that he would be a threat with a Jury that includes Jeff Kent and Jonathan Penner? Or was he only a threat insofar as he was capable of winning an Immunity or two, rather than being a threat to win the million? In any case... Yeah. Playing with their heads and not their hearts. Kinda. I'd feel much more confident agreeing with Carter's assessment of the situation if 20 minutes of tonight's episode hadn't been devoted to Blair Warner and Skupin praying for guidance and wondering why it was God's plan to allow Malcolm to build a sturdy pole. I'm not sure if "Survivor" has wallowed in religion this aggressively since the glory days of Psycho Brandon Hantz. I didn't like it then. I don't like it now. And it's impossible for me to feel like Skupin and Blair Warner are playing with their heads on any level, even if they accidentally made the intellectually correct choice this week. I feel like this "Survivor" season is coming down to a showdown between Faith and Reason, with Skupin & Blair Warner pitted against Malcolm & Denise, with Abi playing the role of Satan, or something. I have a feeling that bad or unlikable things are coming. Or, rather, "bad or unlikable things" from the point of view of somebody who has to take Reason in this debate, at least as it relates to "Survivor." But the bottom line of this Bottom Line is that the players did eliminate the guy who was, theoretically, the bigger threat. In that, the made the right and rational decision, even if it guaranteed us another week of Abi. Mostly, I'm glad Malcolm was able to pull out that Immunity win when he needed to. On the other hand, how could God not have told Blair Warner that in lieu of being able to vote Malcolm out, voting Denise out would cripple Malcolm's resolve down the stretch? Was that possibility not even thrown out there? Why not knock out one of two players seemingly guaranteed to take the other to a finale situation? Or am I wrong and you don't blindside Denise between it would only give Malcolm another guaranteed Jury vote? It just seems like it should have been discussed, right?
Bottom Line, II. Back to the Abi: Good Villain or Bad Villain? debate. She had to take a step back this week, right? She was dreadful in two challenges and dreadfully lazy in one of them. The Immunity Idol bluff didn't sway anybody. So that would all seem to work against her. But she stayed in the game. She managed to be exactly sub-odious enough to *allow* the other players to think with their heads, rather than their hearts. Do we give her credit for that? I wouldn't think so. And yet everybody was completely prepared to send her home last week and she escaped and now she's escaped again and "Survivor" has taught us that if you let people slip by, they might surprise you in the end. I can't think of any precedent for somebody with Abi's "game" winning "Survivor," but it's a breeze to imagine how she could find herself in the finale, which would be a bizarre achievement on its own.
Your thoughts? Brilliant questions for me to ask Carter?

December 6, 2012 at 2:14AM EST Reply to CommentI have decided that Lisa is Survivor's Tim Tebow.
1) Pretty bad at her chosen game.
2) Gets a ton of airtime for no reason.
3) Is super Jesusy.
4) As a combination of 1/2/3 drives me absolutely insane.
Go Team Malcolm/Denise
Pedak But does Tim Tebow cry in between plays?

Andrew... you forgot to add how both Lisa and Tebow are living off of past fame! Great comparison.
December 6, 2012 at 11:42AM ESTPedak... Tebow's tears are quickly collected by the training staff and used in player rehab. The Broncos still had some on stock from last year and apply them to Peyton Manning's neck weekly.
bbq_hax0r Hey now, I come here for Survivor not to see a great QB slandered. Go Gators!

December 6, 2012 at 2:16AM EST Reply to CommentIf they had voted out Denise, then Malcom would have been safe the next week due to his idol. Malcom could have been so mad at Lisa/Skuppin that he could have grabbed Abi and Carter and voted out either Lisa/Skuppin. His assured safety next time made it so voting out Denise really wasn't an option.
Jobin00 Disagree.
December 6, 2012 at 9:50AM ESTWhy would Malcolm be able to grab Abi/Carter next week? Why would Abi/Carter want to keep around Malcolm whos a big threat to win the game and in challenges going forward?
It would be an awful move for them to do that, and only hurt their games and potential end games.
Since they didn't vote out Denise, now there is the 40% chance Malcolm or Denise win immunity (even more if you don't see Abi as a threat). Giving them both a spot in the final 4.
Furthermore, you know everyone's final 2 or 3 plan is going to be to bring Abi along for the ride.
Meaning only one of Skupin/Lisa will make it to the final 4, with Abi.
Had they voted out Denise last night. They would have been Skupin, Carter, Lisa strong and giving themselves each MUCH better odds of making the final 3 or 4.

December 6, 2012 at 2:20AM EST Reply to CommentI enjoyed Skupin talking about Carter like he was Martin Luther King throughout the episode. "Just the greatest person I've ever met in my entire life."
He was a complete zero. His mom was kind of okay looking.
Lisa's reaction to her son/brother was ridiculous. Acted like he just got pardoned from death row or something. I could see her going to the finals and getting very few votes because she promised too many thing to too many people. There is always that one competitor who overextends themselves. She seems pretty determined to not win.
bbq_hax0r Carter didn't even try to do anything other than "I deserve to be here, remember?" Great guy!

December 6, 2012 at 2:54AM EST Reply to CommentIt really irritates me with all the suffering in the world that Christian's think God takes an active interest in who wins in a reality TV show. If God had wanted Blair to win he would have miracled her poking stick for her. I guess he has other plans or maybe doesn't care. At least she was given the go ahead by Justice to lie and/or backstab people to win. So there's that. Cut her the cheque.
Anyway, when the edit looks so lopsided you know that the vote will go the other way. They almost fooled me but it was the smart move to make. Abi is radioactive and her antics are kind of amusing. Was she dragging her ass in the Immunity Challenge to prove she had a HII because she didn't even try and win?
I always roll my eyes when Probst says something like "you have a 1 in 6 chance of winning". As if everyone has an equal chance of winning...
HWah I think Blair Warner agrees with you on God's position. She even stated as much. I don't have a problem with that group of four praying, they weren't doing it over the others and asking them to partake, they were off to the side.
December 6, 2012 at 6:06AM ESTIn my mind, it wasn't godbothering, it was just taking a moment to restablize themselves, just like others may do through whatever means that they choose.
parker I laughed that she took god's will to mean she must do what she has to do to win, rather than honor her word.
December 6, 2012 at 6:30AM ESTI guess it's all in the interpretation....
Miles @Mulderism. I'm sorry that irritates you, but Christians believe in a relational God takes an active interest in all aspects of their lives, whether they are in a reality competition or struggling to survive life. Christians also see God as all powerful so that His concern over the mundane aspects of one person's life does not take away from His concern over the bigger issues.
December 6, 2012 at 4:00PM ESTDezbot Not all Christians believe that. God-botherers certainly do, bleah.

December 6, 2012 at 5:29AM EST Reply to CommentIt's funny that in a season with an all-time unlikeable player like Abi, I'm starting to not even find her the most unlikeable player in the game this season. That distinction may go to Blair Warner. I'm surprised none of your reviews have mentioned this yet: but it feels like(I'm obviously not retro-actively going through to watch every episode to fact check this for accuracy) every single time someone comes to Blair Warner with an idea of what she must do, she's suddenly "had her eyes opened" and she "CAN play this game!" and has an idea.
The complete lack of an apparant mind of her own is growing nearly as grating as Abi's general horrible-ness at being a person.
Her general lack of a coherent idea what she's doing has also I think all but guaranteed she can't win at this point(especially if she had gone through with back-stabbing Malcolm...again). Obviously this assumes I can guess jury votes which I can't, but I don't think she gets votes from Artis/Pete because of flopping on them, she doesn't get Penner's vote I assume, I doubt she'd get Malcolm or Denise for stabbing them in the back a 2nd straight time.
sauloccl I don't get all the hate for Abi. If we were there with them, it'd be ok. But since it's an entertainment show, she is brilliant. It's like watching Michael Scott on "The Office" or Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory" annoying everybody around them. Her craziness is a delight.
December 6, 2012 at 8:25AM ESTI'm rooting for Abi and Malcolm go to the final.
Malcolm's game was incredible, from start to finish: he managed to survive his tribe's extinction, formed a great alliance with Denise and found a HII. He got along with his new tribemates, somehow managed the nightmare of Lisa finding his idol and avoided being blindsided with a bluff. Then he forgave Lisa and formed a final four alliance with her and won the immunity when mattered the most. Plus, his commentaries about the game are always spot on and some of them are actually very funny. He's playing to win and if other person wins this season it's going to be unfair.
Abi, however, has been amusing to watch. She has no filter, speaks everything that comes to mind, annoys everybody and still is in the game. I love her. Denise and Skupin don't deserve the money because they're too boring. And Lisa... I once liked her but I'm now tired of her "able/unable to play the game" antics.
Jobin00 I think Denise has been playing a great game, she's just never got any airtime. Whenever she's speaking she clearly understands the game. She's also been a completely fantastic in challenges. Denise even had a harder time of making it, because once Malcolm and her split into separate tribes, she had to survive multiple tribals on a tribe she just joined.
December 6, 2012 at 9:57AM ESTAlso, as Dan pointed out, the possibility of voting out Denise last night wasn't even raised. One would have to think that is because Denise is playing a great social game, but that hasn't really been shown yet.
sauloccl Weeks ago, she was an underdog and I was rooting for her. Now Denise became a bully who seems to think she's there only to mock Abi... When the truth is that she is the one being tortured, since Jeff keeps asking her all these questions about Abi.
December 6, 2012 at 11:55AM ESTMy prediction is that the final 3 will be Lisa/Skupin and Abi - with Denise being the next voted out and Malcolm (sadly) right after her.
Dezbot I'd argue Abi is the bully in the Denise/Abi dynamic, as she constantly goads Denise into talking about her. I don't find Abi's antics entertaining or funny--she's downright hateful.
December 6, 2012 at 12:20PM ESTJobin00 Saul,
December 6, 2012 at 1:47PM EST"Now Denise became a bully" ??
"Abi was the one being TORTURED" !?!?
I understand you have it in the bag for Abi for some unknown reason, but lets not make up BS just for the sake of trying giving yourself reasons to root for Abi.
It's pretty clear from every tribal and every single piece of footage shown, that its impossible to have an actual rationale conversation with Abi. It's not like this happened once or twice and producers are giving Abi an unfair edit.
Abi is just a spoiled brat prone to temper tantrums, I wouldn't consider her or anyone else a bully this season.
Duncan Pretty sure Saul is trolling us with his Abi love so there's no need to respond to it.
December 6, 2012 at 3:05PM ESTI've been really impressed with Denise and in a final with Skupin, Lisa and Denise it would be interesting to see what the Jury does. Denise is probably the most well spoken cast member Survivor has had in a long time. You can tell she comes from a place of reason and thinks about her words. I think she would put on a fascinating case to the jury.
I still don't see how Lisa wins this game at all. She has the aura of a flip flopper with Pete and Penner and now she's totally changed her strategy by trying to drag Abi to the end. Who on the Jury would vote for her?
If we were doing odds on who wins Survivor it would have to go
Malcolm 1-2
Denise 2-1
Skupin 4-1
Lisa 6-1
Abi 15-1
sauloccl JOBIN00 -
December 6, 2012 at 5:21PM ESTWhat I meant was: Denise can't stop mocking Abi. (Because) Jeff is torturing DENISE by asking her all these questions about Abi.
I never said that the producers are giving Abi an unfair edit.
I know that she has been portraited exactly like she is. And that only makes her even more fascinating to watch.
DUNCAN -
I'm not a troll. I personally think Abi's attitude is terrible but I still think she is a great Survivor character. Before, she was just "a bitch", as Malcolm described her. But since Pete was voted out, she stole the show every single week. The editing of her is incredible and she became the highlight of Survivor.
ABOUT THE "unknown reason" I LIKE ABI -
First of all, it's not because she was born in Brazil (and therefore is my fellow compatriot). She has dual citizenship and chose to live in the US, so she is an American problem now. Deal with her.
For me, the winner of Survivor must be someone who entertained the audience. From the final 5, I think only Malcolm, Abi and (to some extent) Lisa did that.
I agree that both Denise and Skupin could win - and I would not complain - but I'll never root for them because, for me, being part of an alliance, win one or another challenge and hide how much you may dislike the other tribemates (not
called Abi), it adds zero entertainment value to the show. Doesn't matter if the contestant is JT or Ozzy, the main word for me is "outwit". Being nice with everybody and win challenges may be clear requirements for you to win,
but don't make Survivor the amazing show we all know it can be.
bbq_hax0r I find Blair/Lisa much more unlikeable than Abi, mainly because it seems most people still like Blair/Lisa. Abi is a dreadful person who clearly was a bully and seems to be a lazy, dumb, entitled , and anidiot troll who makes for good TV but truly seems like a terrible person to be around.
December 6, 2012 at 9:55PM ESTI still think Malcolm/Denise are going to get screwed by the wishy-washy Skupin/Blair-Lisa and Blair/Lisa is going to win. It appears her or Malcolm has been getting the most favorable edits of late. God Imma be so angry when she wins. It might ruin what has been one of the best seasons in recent memory.

December 6, 2012 at 8:30AM EST Reply to CommentCould Malcolm surpass Kim from last season as the best first time player ever (I stake my claim in that she would've beaten every other player from her season in the final tribal council, something that no other first time winner can say)?
If he wins I think he will because the level of competition this season is higher than last season.
CrumbThumber I am not sure if I agree with that criteria to determine the best first time player. A decent portion of the game is to take people to the end that you have a good shot at beating.
December 6, 2012 at 9:33AM ESTBut even if that wasn't the case, Kim certainly wasn't the first person who would've beaten every other player from their season.
1. Tina (probably, she did beat Colby who was pretty well liked)
2. Tom Westman
3. Todd Herzog
4. JT
There are others that may have beaten anybody, but I am pretty confident that these 4 along with Kim and possible Malcolm, would've beaten anyone.
RadarBlip I'd throw Earl in their to, crumbthumber. If I remember correctly, Earl didn't have a single vote go against him throughout the course of his season. That's fairly impeccable play, regardless of the complacency of his fellow contestants.
December 6, 2012 at 11:31AM ESTAlso, Boston Rob from his last season. But that season really felt like a gift from Mark Burnett to Boston Rob. It barely even registers as a season of Survivor for me.
sauloccl JT, seriously?
December 6, 2012 at 11:34AM ESTHe was the worst winner ever. He was a great physical competitor... and that's it. All the strategy came either from Stephen or Taj, all the time. The mastermind behind the final four, Taj was Survivor Tocantins' greatest contestant: she was such a phenomenonal player that would definitely beat anyone in the final. No doubts. That's why she was voted out.
Anyway, JT's 10th place on Survivor HvV + the letter and the idol he sent to Russell Hantz close the case.
dan Tom - Has Malcolm been the mastermind of anything successful this season? He formed a strong alliance that helped him survive one of the worst Tribes in "Survivor" history. Then he got moved to an unbeatable tribe where he was able to settle in til the Merge. Then he's scurried well to avoid being eliminated after the Merge, making a couple very good plays along the way.
December 6, 2012 at 12:47PM ESTI think Malcolm has played a darned good game, especially given how much of a target logic dictates he should have been.
But so far, I wouldn't put what he's done anywhere NEAR the same level as what Kim did last year, either strategically or physically.
SaulOccl - I've said before and I'll say again: JT played more of a strategic role in his season than he was given credit for, if only because he's been given credit for NOTHING on that level. But yes, the letter to Russell sullied the heck out of his image...
-Daniel
duncan Where does Yul fit in? He probably beat the best Survivor competitor ever. Is there anyone else on that cast that would have beat him? I don't really recall.
December 6, 2012 at 3:14PM ESTAlso the way he used the HII was classic in turning the numbers and turning Penner. The way he leveraged a jury vote from Adam to keep him around for just one more challenge which ended up being the deciding vote ended up being one of the best moves in Survivor, IMO.
sauloccl I actually never read anything you wrote about JT before, Dan. Maybe that's why I'm one of those who refuses to give him no credit whatsoever about the decisions made by his alliance.
December 6, 2012 at 5:37PM ESTThis discussion of the best winner is very subjective: Yul was great, defeating three of the most notable players in the history of the game: Ozzy, Penner and Parvati.
For me, however, the most deserving winner was Bob Survivor Gabon), thanks to his fake HII. But Sandra is my all time favorite contestant and I know most people hate her and think she didn't deserve to win. Just ask Russell.
CrumbThumber I was not listing the best survivor players of all time, I was using the previous posters criteria.
December 6, 2012 at 9:31PM EST@RADARBLIP - Earl would've gotten crushed in a final vote by Yau-Man. So by using Tom's criteria, I would not include him in there. But I agree with you that he is underrated.
As far as Boston Rob, i really think the jury would've voted for anyone viable. I think they hated that they were basically force to vote for Rob because they morally couldn't vote for Natalie or Phillip. But if Mike Chisel made it to the finals, he would've beaten Rob, his entire tribe loved him.
@SAULOCCL - Again, not arguing that JT is a strategic mastermind, but he would've beaten anyone in the final two. Case in point, he was up against probably the best player in the season and got EVERY single vote.
@Duncan - you may be right about Yul. I think it is less of a slam dunk for him because people seemed to respect him more than genuinely like him. And maybe if someone not in his alliance slipped into the finals, he wouldn't have won. But you may be right.
sauloccl Would JT win against Taj? I don't think so.
December 7, 2012 at 7:31AM ESTDezbot Sauloccl, I also love Sandra. In her first season, she was the loudest "under-the-radar" player ever and fully earned her win, IMO.

December 6, 2012 at 12:00PM EST Reply to CommentBah! I am frustrated Dan that you are hating on Lisa and Skupin for praying. Lisa has been emotive and driving by the gut since the show began. Skupin has been harder to read but essentially kinda goofy - it's just Skupin. I think ever since Redemption Island and Matt's immersive faith journey (which the editors HAD to show) the editors have been fascinated by genuine faith as an angle for motivation.
It seems hypocritical to be OK with Lisa's erratic and emotive game until now, just because she is featured praying. I always prefer more cerebral games myself, but I don't think that Lisa is undeserving of being there.
Personally, I wished we had more of Penner because he is my 2nd all time favorite player who got a bad rap as a backstabber. He has a great way of framing the game as a story which he used to his advantage in persuading others.
dan TMS - I haven't been OK with Blair Warner's erratic and emotive game play at any point this season, so no hypocrisy here! She's been semi-entertaining at times, excruciating at times and she set one very good episode in motion...

December 6, 2012 at 12:22PM EST Reply to CommentAbi's not baggage, she's haggage. Ugh. I didn't see Carter as such a threat, and also as more reliable a vote than Abi. I wish they'd kept poor Man-Dana and his tiny mouth around.

December 6, 2012 at 12:45PM EST Reply to CommentDan, assuming you see this in time and weren't already going to ask: Could you ask Carter why he didn't try to sell himself as a reliable swing vote to break up the four-person alliance? Unless there's a sub-alliance of three already, that four-person one has to break, and having a loyal vote in your pocket is good for that. Also maybe ask if he didn't realize he needed to downplay his abilities for individual immunity wins in order to get further in the game. Thanks!
dan Dezbot - I think I got some of that in my interview. Mostly, I think I asked one question and then spent the rest of my time trying to get ANY full answer out of Carter. Shocking, right?
December 6, 2012 at 2:35PM EST-Daniel
Dezbot What was truly shocking were the talking heads he did where he not only spoke more than two words, but made sense. Not surprised he was a hard interview!

December 6, 2012 at 1:17PM EST Reply to CommentIf I were Carter, I would have done one of the following:
-Told everyone at tribal that if they take Abi to the final 3, I will do everything in my power to convince the jury to give her the money.
-Gone to either Lisa/Skupin or Malcolm/Denise and pledged my loyalty for the next vote, so they take out someone from the other twosome at tribal, guaranteeing them a spot in the final 3. Abi would have gone with it.
Just arguing that it would be honorable to keep him is a nice thought, but he obviously needed to do more.

December 6, 2012 at 2:21PM EST Reply to CommentLOL You were extra sarcastic on this recap, which I appreciated, especially the family segment, "Leave the Guy/Gal alone", and "So is God team Abi?" LMAO
You have a typo here: Even Jeff Probst is impressive by how much emotion Blair Warner shows. And here: Several poles fail.
I liked Malcom before, but after that Harry Potter reference, I LOOOOVe him. Hot, fun, good player and a Potter fan? Done. He'd have to be pretty familiar with HP to use that reference so well. You forgot to give Carter a house, Dan (don't blame you), but he couldn't be more Hufflepuff if he tried.
Why is Lisa's crisis being given so much screetime? So annoying. The way she hugged her brother sobbing was like he had come back from the dead or something. Sometimes I get something in my eye during family visit, but that was so over the top, all I did was wonder if her being an actress played into it. Can't we see more of Malcom/Denise and less Lisa/Abi? If Lisa wanted to make a big move, she should have voted Denise out, but i'm glad the non entity of Carter is out. Shouod be an interesting finale given the 5 people that are left.
dan Lana - Fixing the typo! Thanks!
December 6, 2012 at 2:33PM ESTAnd yes, Carter ABSOLUTELY is Hufflepuff.

December 6, 2012 at 2:30PM EST Reply to CommentDenise has let her frustration with Abby get the best of her. Tossing a jury vote away like that could cost her in a final 3 where voting will be close IMO.

December 6, 2012 at 5:06PM EST Reply to CommentAm I mistaken or was this only the 2nd time they overtly showed someone praying this season. I think your attack was a little harsh considering Lisa, herself, talked about the silliness of praying for your football team.
I think you were so caught up in your atheism that you forgot what show you've been watching. Lisa is playing the honest game, not unlike many other contestants, and Skupin has been more than willing to switch alliances at several points this season. So I'm not sure where this faith vs. reason nonsense is coming from.
You act like there has been some big battle brewing all season between Lisa/Skupin and Malcom/Denise when in reality they just decided to team and take out the remaining Tandang and then buddy up for the final four.
What exactly has Malcolm done other than be a likeable guy?
Malcolm and Lisa have succeed thus far for virtually the same reason, being likeable. While Malcolm has been more competitive he just won his first individual immunity last night and hasn't really been a strategic player other than not pissing people off which falls into the social part of the game.
If I'm not mistaken it was Lisa who attempted to orchestrate the biggest move, ousting either Malcolm or his idol earlier in the season but Tandang was too dumb to take her up on it.
Its like that one prayer scene just made you blind to everything else.
dan KcKondor - Jewish.
December 6, 2012 at 6:02PM ESTAnd the Faith versus Reason thing is one sentence at the end of a long recap. I'm not sure that a little joke -- which makes absolute sense in an episode that put the two duos in conflict over their approach to spirituality in the game -- rises to the level of "nonsense."
But I'm glad you love prayer on your reality TV shows. Totally your right!
-Daniel
kckondor Dan,
December 7, 2012 at 12:58PM ESTI'm not really sure it comes off on as a joke when you go on to explain your distaste for it on reality shows. If your intent was humor then I apologize for the criticism.
That said, I still agree with your assessment that these two were in conflict over their spirituality. Malcolm and Denise have been together since the beginning as well as Skupin and Lisa.
I think the only conflict was Lisa's brother saying, 'Hey make a play to win' which is voting out Malcolm. That has nothing to do with his spirituality and much more to do with the fact that he is well liked and played a decent game.
Sorry for the poor assumption about your own spirituality. I do not "love prayer on my reality TV shows". I just don't care. There are many methods people use to calm or center themselves, prayer being one of them. They were doing what works for them. I cared even less when Lisa acknowledged that God doesn't choose sides in a competition.
To me that just seemed like a small, inconsequential part of the plot, and thus it didn't stand out to me. I suppose I was just surprised that it did to to you.
kckondor Cool, I'm a horrible typer.
December 7, 2012 at 12:59PM ESTI meant to say I still disagree with your assessment.

December 6, 2012 at 6:21PM EST Reply to CommentWhat bothers me about people praying on Survivor, isn't that God wouldn't care about who wins a reality tv show (because in theory God is there in all aspects of your life, even if you're in a tv show, you're still human and in need of guidance). What bothers me is that they're expecting God to think they're more deserving of the money than their competitors. It bothers me when catholic people think God sees them as the most special, God's looking out for them above the other people who also care about winning the money. Theoretically, doesn't God love all their children the same? It's just so egotistical to think that God would help YOU, favor YOU, that he likes YOU better. It's so stupid and small minded to basically pray about being successful in taking other people out of the game, who want it just as much, who are also God's children and who He should also be looking out for.
Lana I love Malcolm's tweet:
December 6, 2012 at 9:08PM ESTThought I was safe because I won immunity. Turns out its because Jesus didn't want me to go home yet. Go figure.
kckondor did you miss the confessional where Lisa pointed out the silliness of God choosing sides in a competition or are you only referring to other reality shows.
December 7, 2012 at 1:15PM ESTI too find the idea of prayer strange if only because if life is God's will then what are you praying for? You have no control. If you are praying to give thanks or to just clear your head, then I get it.
Kevin
December 6, 2012 at 7:12PM EST Reply to CommentOh, and a quick thought on all the "why didn't they vote Denise out or raise that idea?"
I think, and for clarity's sake I'm an atheist so praying in general is silly to me, that when they prayed and asked God to guide their decision, they took Malcolm winning immunity as God intervening and saying to them "Don't go against him yet", as they discussed when they got right back to camp. They wouldn't therefore vote Denise because that would just be "going around God's will" I take it?
kckondor I don't think it is that literal, especially given Lisa's acknowledgment about the silliness of praying for your football team.
December 7, 2012 at 1:05PM ESTSay Denise won immunity. You don't think they target Malcolm?
bbq_hax0r
December 6, 2012 at 9:55PM EST Reply to CommentI still think Malcolm/Denise are going to get screwed by the wishy-washy Skupin/Blair-Lisa and Blair/Lisa is going to win. It appears her or Malcolm has been getting the most favorable edits of late. God Imma be so angry when she wins. It might ruin what has been one of the best seasons in recent memory.
kckondor I can somewhat agree with you in that given the choice I'd probably prefer Malcolm and Denise as a winner. But really, what exactly has Malcolm done that Lisa hasn't? In my mind they have basically played the same game. Malcolm is the more physical threat, but he's hardly been a force a challenges. Both are well liked amongst the other players and neither have made a big move, other than both agreeing to a final four and ousting Penner. If anything Lisa should get some credit for trying to oust Malcolm earlier, realizing that he was a threat to win.
