Pre-credit sequence. I still don't understand Jonathan Penner's vote from last week's wacky finale. Let's see if we get an explanation as Dangrayne returns from booting Jeff Kent. Mike Skupin is the first to speak, calling it Tribal Council History, raving at Blair Warner stepping in to rescue him. Abi, though, is pissed off at everybody, sarcastically thanking Skupin for voting against her. He didn't. Penner, if you'll recall, did vote against Abi, and he doesn't deny it, saying he doesn't like to be kept in the dark on Plan Bs. Penner is, in fact, still trying to make sense of the overall vote. HAHA. We spent all that time last week trying to make sense of Penner's potentially passive aggressive vote to get Jeff Kent out? Nope. It turns out that he just didn't know the play. "So I'm the one who blew it by not voting for Pete?" Penner asks Man-Dana. He genuinely has no clue if he made a horrible mistake. That's really hilarious and I guess I appreciate his candor. Meanwhile, Blair Warner and Malcolm make bygones, though Blair Warner is feeling like in lying and betraying and breaking promises, she did herself a disservice. "You're just amazing," Blair tells Malcolm, thanking him for being magnanimous. "It's bigger than me," Blair Warner says of "Survivor."
When the world never seems to be living up to your dreams it's time you started finding out what everything is all about. Penner looks at the lay of the island and he knows that if the five original Tandangs stick together, he's out next. He knows that his choices are winning Immunity, or continuing to exploit the Tandang cracks. He quickly IDs the two parents trying to play "an almost Christian game" and puts them in opposition to the other three who are playing "the bully game." So, naturally, he goes to the Christian side first, trying to reassure and coddle Blair Warner, letting her know that she did nothing wrong at Tribal Council. Penner shows understanding for Blair Warner's upbringing and her psychology, bringing her to tears. Who said Denise was the only therapist out here? Penner's like a topless Dr. Phil. Blair Warner has spent too long performing and too long trying to please people, trying to be liked. Sniffle. It's not your fault! It's not your fault! It's not your fault! It's not your fault! SOB!!! "My whole life has been based on public perception," Blair Warner says. She just wants to be loved, y'all. "If I do the wrong thing, will I still be OK?" she muses.
Dig your own hole. From tears to Reward Challenge. For the challenge, they'll be divided in two teams. Four players have to go through two muddy trenches, crawl through rice and collect balls. When the calls are collected, they have to be tossed into a basket. Want to know what they're playing for? The winning team goes to a local village, where they'll serve as "Survivor" ambassadors, bringing toys and school supplies from Target's discount rack to the locals. In return, they'll get a feast. Score! It's Skupin/Artis/Pete/Blair against Penner/Malcolm/Denise/Man-Dana. "But wait..." you're saying, "There are NINE players left, right?" Well, the players picked teams and Abi wasn't picked. I'd say, "Poor Abi," but screw that. That's hilarious, actually. Probst is practically giddy at Abi's ostracism. Penner has an interesting strategy in which he digs up all of the bags of balls for his team, sacrificing time on his own leg, but presumably setting things up for a comeback. Indeed, seconds later, Man-Dana zips ahead of Blair Warner and gives his team a lead. Suddenly, it's a rout and Probst hails Penner as a hero, repeated. Team Penner has a big lead at ball-tossing, but will it be enough? Team Penner is up 6-0 by the time Team Skupin starts tossing. Team Skupin as a bit of a comeback, but Team Penner wins reward. They get to be philanthropic and well-fed. Plus, they get the biggest Reward of all: Extra time away from Abi.
In which we learn that service to the global community can be more nourishing than tending bar. The ambassadors arrive at what is actually a relatively nice village, where they natives are nicely dressed, have colorful votes and a cadre of cute children. Many of them speak English and those who don't speak English are happy to learn basic words from Penner. "It seems to be the happiest community I've ever walked into," says Penner, who plays a pinata game to the great joy of the children. Also performing spectacularly with the kids with Malcolm, who you may recall spent a year teaching kids in Micronesia. Malcolm finds making children happy to be far more fulfilling than working as a bartender and he begins to doubt his life-path. As well he should. And the buffet spread is spectacular, with shrimp and chicken and pork and shellfish. I'm assuming that "Survivor" chipped in the food as well. The quartet bonds over mistreatment of Skupin and Blair Warner, as they plot their ongoing strategy.
In which Abi exhibits drawbacks to her social game. Back at camp, Pete and Artis are pissed off. Pete correctly understands that it's ironic that he now has to make nice with Skupin and Blair Warner. Pete and Abi agree that Penner goes out next, but Abi has to make sure that she says mean things to Blair Warner, just because Abi doesn't understand how to treat anybody like a human. "I think you're just gullible. I think you're just naive," Abi tells Blair Warner. "She just thinks she knows so much about the game and so much about people in general. I don't know who told her that, but she just needs to shut up," says Artis, suddenly likable for the first time in weeks. Blair Warner had been hoping that at least she'd get to reteam with her Tandang chums, but she's not feeling very loving towards Abi and she's split between her desire to go elsewhere and her previous speech about loyalty. Once again, Blair Warner is worried about how everything looks from the outside. Think about yourself, Blair!
Not a good Immunity Challenge. Immunity is back up for grabs. For this challenge, they'll each balance a paddle on a stand and they have to roll six balls to the end of the paddle and keep them in six dimples. This looks really, really hard. Just landing one ball is hard enough. Skupin gets out to the early lead and soon as four balls, with Pete joining him. Skupin wins Immunity, landing six balls when several of his rivals never got one. Artis is looking forward to getting Penner out and coming back to camp and taking a deep breath.
Fulcrum: It's more than just a villainous espionage organization from "Chuck." Skupin has a big smile as he returns. Abi wishes she could be voting Skupin out, because he's really annoying. God, Abi's just the worst person ever. She literally bashes a coconut into Skupin's head by "accident." Abi's paranoid about Blair Warner and Skupin flipping. Will that happen? Denise, Man-Dana and Malcolm decide that Abi might do something wacky like give Immunity to Pete, so they decide that voting Artis out would be an easy play. The plan hinges on swaying Skupin and Blair Warner. So Penner sits down in the shallows with Blair Warner and he spins her a yarn about how "Survivor" is a story and how she has the choice of how she wants the story to play out. Everything he says is correct. "Man, my head is spinning. I still want to be loyal. But is that the Old Lisa?" Blair Warner wonders. "You might be the fulcrum character," Penner tells Blair Warner about the season's narrative. Then Penner goes to Skupin to try to sway his loyalties, telling him that he's the fulcrum. Who knew that Penner's luxury item -- Remember luxury items? -- was a Word-of-the-Day calendar? Skupin wants to play the game with Blair Warner and it's important to him that she's with him, so they go out to the water and chat. They waffle and hem and haw about their options and about perceptions of loyalty.
Tribal Council. RC and Jeff Kent arrive in their Jury seats. Blair Warner says that the fallout from last week's Tribal Council was all internal, but everybody showed grace to her. "Did you show grace to Lisa as well?" Probst asks Abi pointedly. "Did I show grace to you as well?" Human Slime Abi asks Lisa. Rather than saying, "Oh, Hell's No," Blair Warner says diplomatically that she received more grace from the people against her than her so-called allies. Abi makes a lemon face and only says, "It's interesting." "I felt like I had shown grace to her as well," Abi grumbles cluelessly. Artis says that it's supposed to play out as Tandang Against The World. Denise protests that the game is all about big moves. Artis acknowledges he isn't feeling totally comfortable and safe. Penner says something else about "fulcrum votes." Skupin loved Blair Warner's move. "My life is bigger than this game and this game is bigger than me," Blair Warner says, vowing that this game will change her forever. Penner and Denise hope the numbers have shifted. Abi questions Blair Warner's loyalty. OK. If Blair Warner sticks with Tandang, I'm losing all respect for her and for the entire series run of "Facts of Life."
The Vote. Pete writes Penner's name down, with some respect. Denise writes Artis' name down. None of the Immunity Idols are played. Probst tallies: Artis. Penner. Artis. Penner. Penner. Penner. [Malcolm rolls his eyes.] Artis. Artis. [Penner gulps.] ARTIS. [Penner looks skyward. Skupin looks skyward. Abi sucks both of her lips deep inside her face. RC smiles. Denise smirks. This may be the most diverse set of reactions to any eviction in "Survivor" history.] "Well played to Penner," says a gracious Artis.
Bottom Line. Wow. So Skupin flipped and took out Artis solo, with Blair Warner voting Penner out. Blair Warner could have made the argument that her chances of winning are better if she sticks with the people everybody hates. But that's not the argument she made. She just didn't feel comfortable being disloyal to her original tribe, but since Skupin had jumped ship, that means she decided to be loyal to Artis, Pete and Abi. I'm afraid I can't respect that as gameplay, no matter how fun and exciting Blair Warner made last week's episode. Which of those people did Blair Warner think would take her to the end? Because it's not like she was going to be winning Individual Immunities. No. This was just bad "Survivor" strategy from a bad "Survivor" player. But it made for yet another very solid episode of "Survivor: Philippines." Penner was masterful, even if his being masterful didn't sway Blair Warner. It definitely won Reward and it made things interesting. I liked the Reward challenge and the Reward a lot and I like the way the "Survivor" editors have decided to make Abi into possibly the most loathsome player in "Survivor" history. I'm not saying she's the biggest villain in "Survivor" history, because that would be insane, but she may be the most repellent player who simultaneously contributed absolutely nothing by way of strategy or physicality. I'm watching episodes trying to think up the most backstabbing, embarrassing, humiliating ways for her to go home. I think it would involve Pete making a deal with the Kalabaws to convince Abi to give him the Idol. It wouldn't be enough for her just to give him the Idol to save him, because that would be altruistic. Pete would have to turn on her as well. And then RC would have to be encouraged to do a happy dance.
Who's got a better humiliation elimination for Abi? And what'd you think of this week's episode? Where do you stand on Blair Warner?

November 15, 2012 at 1:47AM EST Reply to CommentYour Pete betraying Abi wish scenario is terrific. But it's to good to actually happen
sauloccl I feel sorry for Abi, I got to say. She doesn't seem to have any social skills! Her only "friend" in the game is Pete - and we all know what he thinks about her! It's sad to think how promising her alliance with RC was. Together, plus they would have a shot to rule the entire game.
November 15, 2012 at 10:51AM ESTI'm curious to see how she would play the game without Pete's influence. So I'm definetely rooting for him to be next person voted out. Why? Simply because she is a better player than Pete. Lisa gave Pete a great opportunity to get rid of Malcolm and his HII and still keep the numbers and he blew it.
He (just like Abi) doesn't trust Lisa. That's why he told everything to Malcolm. The only difference between Pete and Abi is that she can't keep her mouth shut to save her life. Oh, wait... there's no difference at all. The difference is the edition. They showed us Pete saying that he was worried by Abi's tendency to talk strategy in front of everybody but he throw Lisa under the bus last week by doing the same thing.
sauloccl * plus the HII,
November 15, 2012 at 10:53AM ESTJobin00 Pete asking Malcolm if he did have a HII to read his reaction to it, is not Pete having an inability to keep his mouth shut.
November 15, 2012 at 11:32AM ESTPete hasn't been much of a mastermind though.
He could have gone to Lisa/Skupin and said "look I know Abi is constantly nagging you both, but we just need to stay strong for now, then we can vote her out the first change we get," then make a final 4 deal between themselves.
I could understand your smypathy for Abi if the editors were manufactoring this whole mess, or Probst was tearing her apart at tribal.
But she's respondsible for the awful things that are coming out of her mouth that are allienating everyone at camp, and everyone in her former extremely dominate Tangdang (no thanks to her, since she sat out ever challenge) too.
sauloccl Of course it is. Pete not only asked about the idol, he told Malcolm every single word. He could have asked if he or Denise or someone else of his old tribe found a clue or the HII and played during a previous tribal council. He could also protect his ally and do not mention that it was Lisa who told him about Idol. Pete is dumb. Otherwise he would have kept his mouth shut when it mattered most.
November 15, 2012 at 12:05PM ESTThe challenges are a big part of the game. If I were playing "Survivor", I'd like to be part of all the challenges. It's clear that she didn't like to sit out during the challenges, it's not her fault. So it's not very nice to say she was not part of the winner tribe. She may say things that are allienating everyone at camp, but by being excluded of every challenge, don't you think that everyone allienated her?
I want Malcolm or Lisa to win the game, but I'd like to see Abi embrace this villion edition she got and redeem herself by making big moves.
bbq_hax0r I'm think Denise and Malcolm made up a story about one of them using the HII to save one of themselves at the final tribal for team Purple which would explain why NO ONE THOUGHT THAT MALCOLM AND DENISE WERE TOGETHER! It took them until this week for them to realize it, and since Pete was "sure that the Idol was played and Malcolm didnt have it" that clearly indicates they said SOMETHING about it. It took until Malcolm announced his idol for people to realize they were together, indicating they told some fib.
November 15, 2012 at 1:41PM ESTJobin00 Saul,
November 15, 2012 at 4:00PM ESTYou are forgetting that Pete believed that Malcolm was in his alliance (with Lisa) at the time he had to ask him about his idol. Pete had a man crush on Malcolm and thought they were working together in the game.
Too many times in the game people make mistakes because they believe a juicy bit of information (fact or a lie) that makes them target another player, only they never challenge the validity of that information, and end up getting themselves manipulated.
You make it seem that his asking about the idol was some huge blunder, but it wasn't.
Pete and Tangdang still carried out their plan to vote out RC, which in itself was a dumb plan, but again that plan wasn't impacted by Pete confronting Malcolm about the possibility of having an idol.
I didn't say Abi wasn't part of the winning tribe. I was just pointing out that she wasn't involved in their challenge domination. Her contributions to the tribe were working around camp and her social game. It's unclear how hard a worker she is around camp, but its pretty clear that she's a terrible social player and drives everyone nuts at camp.

November 15, 2012 at 2:22AM EST Reply to CommentI'd personally like to see Abi go to the end, get eviscerated at the final tribal and get 0 votes by the jury. I think that would be more satisfying. And as awful as she is, she is nowhere near as loathsome as Colton or Naonka.
And are you saying that Blair knew how Skupin was going to vote and then changed her vote to Penner in order to stay loyal?
dan Mulderism - Skupin was determined to stick with Blair, wasn't he? So where was the disconnect? I don't have an answer for that.
November 15, 2012 at 2:31AM ESTAnd, as I said to Andrew below, Colton was absolutely more loathsome, but he contributed to the season and drama was produced because of things he did as an actual strategic force. Abi just sucks. And, honestly, lots of people hated Naonka a TON more than I did...
-Daniel
sauloccl I don't get all the bad comments about Naonka. It's a million-dollar game and a television show. Her crazy antics (stealing the food or talking about Kelly B.'s leg, or taking Fabio's socks) were the most entertaining moments of the season. I was sad when she quitted the game.
November 15, 2012 at 11:14AM ESTColton, however, just highlights how bad the cast of his season was. Giving up immunity to vote one of your own team player? That's nuts. I won't lie: I was happy to see him go home.
My guess is that, like Dan said, Abi's crime is the worst of them all: being (so far) one of those contestants who adds nothing to the game.
Robin I think Skupin changed his vote at the last minute during Tribal, possibly because of how Abi acted. Lisa seemed shocked at the outcome, so I think she was sure that Tandang was voting in a block.
November 15, 2012 at 11:21AM ESTCrumdawg97 I didn't view it as a Skupin-Lisa disconnect. My assumption was that Skupin basically took a bullet for Lisa, voting "disloyally" while she voted loyally. Really the only thing keeping Lisa from flipping was that whole loyalty idea, so it makes sense that Skupin might suggest this scenario to give her a semi-plausible way out of that box.
November 15, 2012 at 12:59PM ESTI know it's just semantics and might be pretty transparent to the tribe -- particularly since, if I'm right, everyone will see Skupin and Lisa are still aligned -- but Lisa was so obsessed with not wanting to APPEAR disloyal, even as she realized she wanted a change, that I can totally see her opting for a passive aggressive maneuver like this.
This seems much more likely to me than Skupin changing his mind last minute or having a plan to vote for Artis that Lisa wasn't on board with or aware of (think about how much credit Skupin gives Lisa for him still being around). Hopefully we'll get a concrete answer in the opening minutes next week.
Mulderism I didn't find Naonka entertaining. On the contrary, because of her I eventually quit watching for the rest of the season. I just couldn't stand to hear her rants another minute.
November 15, 2012 at 1:12PM ESTIf Colton hadn't left early I might have done the same.
bbq_hax0r I explained my theory below, but basically Skupin made the decision for Blair so she can still say she is loyal AND play the game with the people she wants. I believe that she (Blair) knew how the vote was going and wrote extra fancy on her card so she can prove she stuck with Yellow and therefore still get their votes.

November 15, 2012 at 2:26AM EST Reply to CommentHow quickly you forget we had an out and out racist on the show just last season.
dan Andrew - "[S]he may be the most repellent player who simultaneously contributed absolutely nothing by way of strategy or physicality."
November 15, 2012 at 2:29AM ESTI forgot nothing. Colton absolutely contributed strategically.
-Daniel
Andrew Different definitions of "loathesome," I guess. Loathesome to me is a judgment about someone's actual character, not someone as a Survivor character. Also, being blatantly racist all the damn time negates any strategic contribution here, I think.
November 15, 2012 at 4:10AM ESTThough I actually disagree that Colton contributed strategically in a way Abi doesn't. They're both self-destructive morons who couldn't win a game of single player Connect 4. Not to mention they'd never win a single jury vote, much less the million dollars. They both get their way because Survivor players tend to let bullies run over the game out of fear of being noticed by the bullies. The only regret I have from Colton being medevaced is we didn't get to see Kim run circles around his idiotic ass.
Hell, let's break down his entire 6 episode run:
1) Gets handed an immunity idol, is whiny and useless
2) Is whiny and useless
3) Wants to vote out the black guy, fails, instead is convinced by Troy to vote out the guy who thinks 4 > 5. A true move of strategic brilliance.
4. Agrees with Tarzan that they need to voluntarily give up immunity because he hates the black guy so much. In the running for single dumbest move ever, only loses because it wasn't late enough in the game (Ice Cream Scooper Erik reigns supreme!).
5. Votes out the most useful member of the minority of his new tribe.
6. Is medecvaced, but not before being racist towards a second minority group!
Where's the strategic contribution? The closest he comes is the either incredibly stupid or kind of vaguely smart play in episode 5. If the show wasn't edited into the Colton show for those six episodes, everyone would forget him as another useless moron.
Anyway, I basically think Abi is your generic Survivor social bully. She's just not that noteworthy, except maybe as an obvious goat who will not be receiving votes in the finale.
Matthew
November 15, 2012 at 2:26AM EST Reply to CommentI didn't think it would happen with the episode that aired last week, but this is my favorite episode of the season yet. So many great and wonderful things, like:
- Penner and his love for fulcrum
- Skupin looking to the sky in the most obvious way, pointing out he was the swing vote and rubbing it in Tandangs face
- Artis having the biggest grin on his face just for it to wipe away immediately after his first vote
- Kent and his porn stache
- RC looking damn fine!
- The Reward was amazing, and it made me love Penner, Denise, and Malcolm even more. Heck, I think I actually like Carter now as well.
- And then pretty much anything involving Abi this episode. She is so horrible and so so stupid. I loved how she just shut up about the whole vote thing after Penner stepped up to her. Shows she has no spine when someone actually talks back to her. Also, why wouldn't Penner vote for you, YOU HAVE THE HIDDEN IMMUNITY IDOL! Nothing quite says target like having one of those. Also loved the fact she was left out of the reward challenge, she would of been the worst ambassador ever. She probably didn't even want the reward anyway, because she is so horrible she would rather care about having some food than making children happy. Then back at camp how she was saying that Skupin is so annoying, and then she flings a coconut at his head, kudos to the survivor editors there. Then she was boasting how she found a big clam, while Carter, Denise, and Malcolm shrugged it off and kept talking strategy. And of course tribal council, where she was an idiot and told Blair that she didn't trust her. Should of just said that anyone is capable of flipping on an alliance at any moment. Great episode showing just how horrible, stupid, and utterly pathetic she is.
Sad that out of the three tandangs that Artis had to go, he was the one who was most pumped up about the reward, makes me think he is just a really good person who got stuck with Abi and Pete, and is just doing the best he can with what he was dealt.
As for longterm strategy, the Kalabaw/Skupin+Lisa alliance(that is if they can finally flip Lisa) Might have to lose one of their own before they can get rid of Abi and Pete. If Pete wins individual immunity, then Abi will just play the HII for sure, even she isn't stupid enough not to play in that scenario. More than likely Lisa, Penner, or Carter would be voted out if that scenario happens. At least it would clear out the HII.
This is shaping up to be a great season of survivor, and I think I would truly be fine with anyone other than Abi and Pete winning it this season, even Carter(though he is my last choice out of everyone not named Pete or Abi).
Elevation RC is one of the best looking players in show history. Her body is amazing.
November 15, 2012 at 2:34AM ESTdan Matthew - *Technically* I think that the coconut she was trying to open slipped under the machete, shot out and whacked Skupin in the head. And Skupin's head is kinda a magnet for heavy things and sharp objects...
November 15, 2012 at 2:34AM EST-Daniel
Matthew I know it was an accident, but it was still great that the survivor editors spliced the scene that way.
November 15, 2012 at 2:38AM ESTAnd of course the one way Skupin doesn't injure himself, Abi is somehow involved in it.
Matthew One more thing that I completely forgot about, but loved.
November 15, 2012 at 3:01AM ESTPenner making Probst take the immunity idol off his neck, rather than just giving it to him. I love Penner!
duncan I kind of wanted to see Artis do SOMETHING this season and flip to the other alliance after Abi's nonsense after the reward. That would have been a great flip and one no one would have seen coming. But alas he must have really been hated out there for him to not even think about it or he's not a good player (probably the latter). If it was a 5-4 split and you had no trust for two of the people on your side, you should be the one that flips. Granted you would be on the bottom of the other 5, but it saves you at least 6 more days.
November 15, 2012 at 2:49PM ESTElevation
November 15, 2012 at 2:30AM EST Reply to CommentBlair Warner must have absolutely no self respect. I thought for sure she was the one who voted for Artis. Is she trying to finish 5th? Why in the hell would she want to continue to be aligned with her mental abusers? She must have Stockholm Syndrome.
Abi may be the most repugnant player in the history of the show. I would rather be an alliance with the Manson Family than her. She has literally no redeemable qualities.
Of course Artis gets voted out in the first episode he shows any likable qualities. He's like the T-Dog of Survivor!
dan Elevation - If I figured there were even the slightest chance he would get it, I would ask Artis tomorrow if he thinks of himself as the T-Dog of "Survivor."
November 15, 2012 at 2:33AM ESTAlas, it would be a wasted question...
-Daniel
Matthew Speak for yourself about T-Dog, I found him quite likable before the episode he died. Of course he wasn't really a character, just a demographic grab by the show to that the show isn't racist. But him having no character was better than having a shitty annoying character, a.k.a Lori, Shane, Andrea, Carl(before season 3).
November 15, 2012 at 2:36AM ESTElevation I would rather live in the Governor's Fish Tank than in the same camp as Abi!
November 15, 2012 at 2:38AM ESTElevation I actually respected Shane. He and Daryl seemed to be the only characters on the show who grasped they were living in a Zombie Apocalypse. Walking Dead does have the problem of making all their characters one trick ponies with no shades of gray. T-Dog was a glorified extra who showed no personality until his last episode, kind of like Artis.
November 15, 2012 at 2:46AM EST(Hopefully Uncle Dan doesn't delete this strain of conversation.)
But anyway, I hear Artis is a massive Walking Dead fan, Dan. I think the CBS publicity people would love it if you spent his entire interview talking about T-Dog.
Matthew I liked how Shane was pragmatic, and it did make for an interesting dynamic with the sheriff Rick of the first season, but I lost my respect for Shane when he tried to drunkenly force himself on Lori at the end of the first season. It just kept going downhill from there. And that is the last I will talk of the TWD on a survivor board.... Though it is clear that Denise would easily be the best out of this cast in a zombie apocalypse.
November 15, 2012 at 2:57AM ESTI also hear that Artis is a fan of not only The Walking Dead, but New Girl as well, he sure does love the adorkableness that Zooey brings to the table!
Mulderism I think Blair's problem is her conscience. She doesn't want to be caught lying on national TV and then have to explain her actions to her congregation when she gets home.
November 15, 2012 at 3:03AM ESTMulderism I admit that I don't pay as close attention to what is going on as you esteemed talkbackers. She probably already lied multiple times but I don't recall offhand.
November 15, 2012 at 3:05AM ESTElevation I think she swore to Malcolm that she would keep his idol a secret.
November 15, 2012 at 3:14AM ESTJobin00 Elevation,
November 15, 2012 at 11:38AM ESTEven spilling the beans about Malcolm's idol could be viewed as being true/loyal to Tangdang though.
Dezbot Blair definitely has a loyalty problem. She keeps saying she knows Survivor is not real life, but she keeps playing like it's real life and she has to be honorable and loyal. SMH. Better yet, smack *her* head.

Definitely not worse than Colton from One World. Abi, as worthless and insufferable as she may be (and she most certainly is), at least found the Idol she possesses now. Colton didn't even do that, the girls were the ones who found it and gave it to him.
But Abi is a close runner up, absolutely.
Andrew There are quite a lot of more repellent people. Rocky from Fiji, a blatant sexist and homophobe, who starred in Probst's very worst moment wherein he insisted Rocky was just bullying Anthony to help him! James Clement would be another, despite his fan favorite awards. That dude is sexist and has serious rage issues. Speaking of sexist with rage issues who are super popular and propped up by editing, come on down Rupert! And of course, there was the dude (Ben?) in Samoa who actually got voted out for being a racist.
November 15, 2012 at 4:14AM ESTAbi is just an obnoxious, stupid bully. Those are a dime a dozen on this show and throughout reality TV (hi Mirna).
Greg With James, I didn't think he had any rage problems in China, which makes me believe that he took this aggressive approach after such a humilliating exit. But I agree that he and Rupert were obnoxious, to say the least.
November 15, 2012 at 4:22PM ESTI guess the editing became really manipulative as the seasons progressed. They have to get some emotion from the viewers and hatred is better than nothing. So that's why Abi, as a Survivor character, is a lot more hateful than James and Rupert (I didn't watch Fiji and Samoa). I can't tell if in real life she's worse than those guys are.

November 15, 2012 at 2:58AM EST Reply to CommentYeah, Abi isn't sympathetic, but her over the top villain edit annoys me. You can tell the producers are picking all the clips of her being awful. I was rolling my eyes when they showed her cutting the cocunut and hitting Skupin with it, like, they wouldn't normally show a clip like that, but they REALLY want to drive home the fact that she sucks.
I disagree that she's not strategic, she got the idol and until a week ago she was firmly in the core of the dominant alliance. It's not like she's not playing the game, she just doesn't play it well.
Jobin Liria,
November 15, 2012 at 11:13AM ESTAbi was the person who allienated her inner Tangdang tribe the 6 of them (including RC) would have been able to stick together and coast to the final 6.
Instead she alienates RC, Skupin, and Lisa and pushes them away, giving them EVERY reason to flip to the other side. Honestly, had Kent not made a dumb move, Tangdang would have been weakened on the first merge tribal because they wanted to get RC out.
Abi was part of a dominant TRIBE, one that she contributed nothing to, because they constantly won challenges while she sat on the sidelines.
Abi was never part of a dominant alliance, 3 people cannot make a dominant alliance.
duncan Jobin nailed it. Abi did nothing to contribute to having any numbers. She sat out most of the challenges when there were 3 tribes anway. Then when their tribe of 6 would have had dominant numbers at the merge her attitude (along with Pete) shoves Skupin, RC, and Lisa aside. RC and then Pete helped her find the idol. If you want to give her partial credit for that, fine. But that's all she's done.
November 15, 2012 at 2:54PM ESTShe is the sole reason Tandang isn't picking off the others 1 by 1. Penner,Malcolm, Denise, or Carter win they should give her a share of the money.
Diet Dr. Penner
November 15, 2012 at 4:01AM EST Reply to CommentI thought it was interesting that during that entire therapy session between Penner and Blair, they aren't alone. Artis and probably others are just sitting there nearby ignoring the whole thing. Since the show has established that only returning players watched Facts of Life, no one else is overhearing their conversation and getting confused? The thing where Penner goes meta and starts talking about Blair's edit on the show was interesting too. I've thought Blair's edit on the show has been similar to Kathy from the fourth season. So far, it's had the same beats. Would have been the first one voted out from her tribe if they had lost early but since they never did, things evolved and now she's probably making it to the end. Two other quick thoughts. Why don't Denise and Artis recognize Blair? Is it ironic that a sex therapist isn't familiar with The Facts of Life?
nic919 I have read on other boards that Denise stated on her Facebook that she did recognize Blair. The editors have just chosen not to show that yet.

November 15, 2012 at 9:36AM EST Reply to CommentPenner is really playing a great game - so much better than his first time around. I'm glad they brought him back; he's an enjoyable player and character to watch and strategize.
Great move by Denise, too, swaying the tribe to vote out Artis since there was no shot Abi would give him immunity.

November 15, 2012 at 10:13AM EST Reply to CommentI'm glad the last two weeks were entertaining, because the next three will likely be duds as Abi, Pete, and Lisa get taken out. Abi's idol is the only x-factor now, but it's easily accounted for by anyone with sense. Two possible scenarios for next week:
1) Pull Lisa in and split votes 3/3 between Abi and Pete, making the idol irrelevant.
2) Scare Abi into playing the idol, but then just vote out Lisa. She made her bed with Tandang by last night's vote, so taking her out is acceptable on all levels. Then the idol's gone and you can just finishing wiping them out.
I'm already excited for the final five, which is obviously coming down to Penner/Skupin vs. Malcolm/Denise and Carter as the swing vote. That will be a fun episode.
Jobin00 I don't think it will be too boring, it seems there are a LOT of players still left in the game that are strategic and hell bent on making the best moves for themselves individually going forward.
November 15, 2012 at 11:49AM ESTEven the non Tangdang is more a loose collection of pairs than a true tribe wide alliance we've seen way too much of in years past.
Remember you've got 2 idols still in the game, which can really change things.
Unfortunately for Malcolm though, he'll likely become a HUGE target as soon as Pete's gone and Abi's idol is gone, he's got the idol, and is a challenge threat.
Robin I don't think there's any certainty to next week.
November 15, 2012 at 1:01PM ESTRather than a strong majority alliance, I see 3 tight duos (Lisa/Skupin, Abi/Pete, Denise/Malcolm) and 2 free agents that could go any direction. While there is a great deal of animosity towards Abi/Pete, it could be a smart move for one of the duos to align with them NOW since they have an II (it's not hidden) and neither would probably get votes in a final tribal.
There are too many people who are still playing this game really hard for anyone to feel comfortable out there.
bbq_hax0r Lisa is still with Skupin. Count it. He gave her the best of both worlds, remaining loyal and playing with the people she wants. Count it.
November 15, 2012 at 1:52PM ESTElevation I think the TanDang people and Jeff Kent let themselves get way too psyched out by Penner. They got caught up in his web instead of recognizing Malcolm and Denise as bigger threats to win the game.

November 15, 2012 at 11:52AM EST Reply to CommentI think Malcolm, Denise, and Carter are the new power alliance.
Last week, I had thought Carter would stick with Penner, but it looks like Denise/Malcolm have control of Carter since Penner had no clue about the Pete voting.
Dezbot We were trying to figure out who was pulling Man-Dana's puppet strings last night because was actually making sense when he did his talking heads. Thanks for the insight!
November 15, 2012 at 12:52PM ESTbbq_hax0r Does that mean M/D/C bring in Pete to give them a 4-some over Penner/Blair/Skupin? Could be interesting.
November 15, 2012 at 1:50PM ESTJobin00 BBQ,
November 15, 2012 at 4:10PM ESTIt's still interesting because you have to figure that Penner has the possibility of pulling Carter over to his side too.
Penner / Skupin are clearly bonded up by the returning players thing (they are constantly showing them giving them thumbs up type stuff to each other during/after challenges).
Skupin can pull in Lisa, and even Penner has a bond with Lisa too.
The best part is it seems everyone is playing to win as of right now, and not just looking to be happy making it to the jury (or top ___).
sauloccl I think Skupin's new alliance of four is Lisa/himself + Penner/Man-Dana. I think Man-Dana may become Penner's puppet once he realizes that everybody except for him has a closer ally (Abi-Pete, Malcolm-Denise, Lisa-Skupin).
November 15, 2012 at 5:25PM ESTBut it makes no sense to me. You got to have at least one of the idols on your side. The best alliance for everybody (in my opinion) contains both Abi and Pete because a) they can't win and b) Abi has an II.
I'm sure the next episode will be highly entertaining because there will be MULTIPLES alliances among these duos. I'm preparing myself for another crazy, very unpredictable tribal council.

November 15, 2012 at 12:55PM EST Reply to CommentI am really enjoying this season despite Abi's awfulness and Pete's stupidity. Too bad Artis' likeable side came out too late. I was wondering how he would have played without Abi and Pete's influence. Seems he would have been a lot nicer!
Blair has to get over her insane loyalty to the dogs of her tribe. She's the omega there, so why bother sucking up to them? I agree that if she was still talking about them as goats she can beat, I'd understand, but she's shifted into her Christian aspect and it's annoying and baffling. Ugh.
Way to go, Penner! I loved the meta talk about the edit. I'm surprised they left it in there since he was so blatantly describing how the show is edited.

November 15, 2012 at 1:05PM EST Reply to CommentAbi may technically be a worse person and I do have a strong dislike for her, but in terms of horrible human beings playing Survivor, I think I found Alicia the Special Ed teacher to be more unbearable, if only for her ignorant, offensive comments toward not only the other players but entire minority groups (including her special ed students), and her constant bragging about how amazing she thinks she is. Abi at least has not gone that far, although I very much question her sanity.

November 15, 2012 at 1:36PM EST Reply to CommentTwo comments:
1) I was right last week when I said Penner simply got confused and that Malcolm/Denise were in a bad spot (having to rely on a flip because they made their bed with a losing alliance) and needed a break this week. I think it's too risky hedging your bets someone flips, even in this weird shambled tribe. Sorry, I'm not right often.
2) I believe Skupin made the decision for Lisa (aka Blair?) knowing that she wanted to be loyal. She's obviously still aligned with Skupin, but now she can say she didn't flip on her original alliance (and can prove it by saying she wrote w/e on her card). Now she flipped w/o flipping and Skupin basically bit the bullet for her, made the decision so she can save face.
Still a good episode, although had to come down a little from the past two. God, is Abi the worst? She's clearly one of the dumbest people this show has seen.
bbq_hax0r While I'd like to give Penner the credit Andrew gives him for some smart play, do you think it is possible that he simply misread the group and thought they were going for Abi and not Pete and therefore he voted for the wrong person b/c he was on the wrong page?

#Humblebrag
Of course I was wrong about various other things last week :(
Jobin00 1) I'd like to claim partially being right about last week. Abi getting a vote did send her into a mini-meltdown as soon as they got back to camp, it was a shame Penner didn't keep his vote against her secret.
November 15, 2012 at 4:20PM ESTSadly Penner's vote against her was out of being completely confused by what Plan B was, and not physcological warfare on Abi.
2) I with you that Skupin made the decision for Lisa to give her an easy out of her loyalty pickle.
Why would Skupin want Lisa to look better than him in the eyes of the jury?
If the jury is really going to be pissed at Lisa for flipping, then they are going to be just as pissed if she flips this week.
In my opinion, Skupin went against Artis because it was best for HIS game. Remember Skupin was SAVED last week because of the whole tribal mess, initially the Tangdang plan was vote out Penner then Skupin.
Why would Skupin want to go and allign with them? Again Skupin/Lisa making a 5 person alliance, where they are down 2 vs 3, isn't a smart move.
Skupin also is in a good shape, since his ties to Penner, so even if Lisa doesn't want to join him, he always can work with Penner going forward.
I honestly have to give Skupin credit here, I thought he was being led around by RC, then by Lisa, but its clear he's thinking for himself, which is great.
bbq_hax0r That is very interesting. You might be right about Skupin doing Skupin things rather than my plan. There did seem to be some genuine shock on the face Lisa when Artis was voted (who knows if she was acting).
November 19, 2012 at 4:58PM ESTThis season has been really good and so many different scenarios.

November 15, 2012 at 2:35PM EST Reply to CommentAnyone else find it interesting that Penner broke Blair Warner down by telling her she didn't have to please people like she had tried to all her life as a performer, then tried to convince her she should be concerned about what the AUDIENCE thought of her? I mean I know Penner was going scortched earth for any way in but the hilarity of those two concepts juxtaposed was evident, at least to me.

November 15, 2012 at 5:39PM EST Reply to CommentSeems like one of the more competitive seasons I've seen. I feel like 6 of the remaining 8 have a legitimate shot at the million with no real clear favorite.
