Listen: Firewall & Iceberg Podcast No. 163 - Worst of 2012

Dan and Alan discuss their least favorite TV shows of the year

The

Happy Monday, Boys & Girls.

Last week, Sepinwall & I celebrated TV's Best of 2012

As Santa Claus would tell you, it's pleasant to put together a "nice" list, but it's MUCH more fun to penalize the kids who have been naughty.

That's why we're dedicating what will probably be our last Firewall & Iceberg of 2012 to handing out lumps of coal. And there are plenty to go around.

And because we recorded this podcast on Friday, pretty much at the second that AMC announced the Glen Mazzara-free renewal for "The Walking Dead," we talked for a bit about the potential ramifications for the zombie drama. Since very little has changed or evolved in that particular story, I doubt that the segment will seem too outdated.

The breakdown:
"The Walking Dead" without Glen Mazzara (00:01:00 - 00:10:55)
The Worst of 2012 (00:11:00 - 01:11:00)

As always, you can subscribe to The Firewall & Iceberg Podcast over at the iTunes Store, where you can also rate us and comment on us. [Or you can always follow our RSS Feed.]

And as always, feel free to e-mail us questions for the podcast.

enjoyed the podcast, but nothing will ever compare to the worst of 2011 podcast when Dan goes off about H8R.

dan Tyler - 2012 was full of suckiness, but nothing left me QUITE as irate as "H8r." But hope springs eternal for 2013!

sepinwall The gap between summer and winter tour is much shorter than that between winter and summer, especially since the summer tour moved into August.

And sometimes, Dan just says these things, you know?

Fun stuff. I'm surprised we never heard the words "Mob Doctor." Even if it's just in respect to the title.
You guys should preview the NFL playoffs. Or debate NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Is it weird that I sort of enjoy the sports debates as much as the TV stuff?
Thanks for a years worth of great listening.

My one disappointment; this was recorded before the announcement of HIMYM Season 9. Then Dan might have told us what he really thought :P

Dan, how come no rant about Gossip Girl? It was easily the worst show on TV in 2012.

dan Tom - It'll be in the Bottom 10 slideshow I'm posting tomorrow night... I felt like I was talking about too many shows Alan didn't watch.

belinda Yeah no kidding. I was left so grossed out by GG that I think I will have a hard time watching anything new from Schwartz and co anymore, despite my love for Chuck and the OC.

I hope we can get some Jack Klugman talk on the next podcast (whenever that is) - Odd Couple, Quincy, some memorable Twilight Zone episodes and even going on Match Game with Brett Somers.

For all its faults, the episode "Marny Wants a Girl" of Guys With Kids was a perfectly good episode of television. Tempestt Bledsoe and Anthony Anderson getting to be silly and have fun, Zach Cregger and Jamie-Lynn Sigler having actual characters with chemistry, and minimal Erin Hayes and Jesse Bradford. That's a show I could really like!

Don't worry Dan, I live alone and always seem to have WAY too much laundry to do. And dishes too.

Looking forward to hearing it, but is anyone else having issues with the iTunes feed? It doesn't seem to know that there is a new podcast.

dan MatthewL - iTunes is a perpetual mystery. It updates of its own volition and at different speeds for different people. So I assume that yes, others are probably having delays, but that still others got the podcast immediately... It's probably nothing personal...

By Alan's logic of "The Greco-Roman pantheon was not worshiped by Australians," shouldn't an American accent be just as illogical as an Australian accent? I'd think anything other than a Greek or maybe Italian (Latin?) accent would be just as "illogical" as Australian.

scoopie77 Or an English accent. In the old movies, they always had proper English accents. Teehee.

It's not inconceivable that the Greco-Roman pantheon are in Australia - after all, the Norse pantheon are currently residing in New Zealand ( http://thealmightyjohnsons.co.nz/ ).

dan Emanuel - Yup. Lots of those are mighty bad shows. Some of them -- "Allen Gregory," "H8r," "Charlie's Angels" -- didn't air in 2012. Some of them -- "I Hate My Teenage Daughter," "Pretty Little Liars" -- I/we didn't watch a second of in 2012.I'm negative-to-ambivalent on few of the others. And "The Mindy Project" isn't bad at all.
