In the wake of the Trevor Noah "kerfuffle" last week -- in which the incoming "Daily Show" host became the target of criticism over a number of old tweets deemed to be anti-Semitic, sexist and even racist by the Twitter hordes -- outgoing host Jon Stewart took a moment on Monday night's episode to come to his successor's defense.

“The only thing I would say is, I do hope, you give him an opportunity to earn [your] trust and respect, because my experience with him is that he is an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny and smart individual," Stewart said in part. "And, man, I think you give him that time and it’s going to be well worth it. I’m excited for where he’s going to take this thing.”
