Music Power Rankings: Taylor Swift, Rihanna and 'The Voice' top the list

Psy joins the party

1. Taylor Swift: “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” becomes the longest running country hit at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 32 years. Please explain to me what part of the song is “country” again...

2. "The Voice": As the show’s third season, 3-night premiere dominates over “The X Factor,” “The Voice” becomes THE vocal talent competition to beat. Mark Burnett tries to figure out a way to run three editions a year.

3.Rihanna: You can set a clock to that girl. Though it hasn’t been confirmed, the rumor is she will drop another album in November. She has released one album a year since 2005, except for 2008.

4 Psy: Resistance is futile. Just learn the horse trot and give in to “Gangnam Style.” Join the 150 million who already have. The South Korean artist is now signed to Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun’s label. We smell a duet.

5 . Nikki Minaj: She injects herself into the political conversation with her fake endorsement of Romney and then real endorsement of Obama. We’re really listening to a cartoon character’s political thoughts?

6. Matchbox Twenty:
After nearly 20 years, the pop-rock band scores its first No. 1 album. They are definitely “Back 2 Good.”

7. Randy Jackson: This Dawg has nine lives. It would seem rumors of his demise as an “American Idol” judge were greatly exaggerated.

8. Goldenvoice:
The folks who bring you Coachella and Stagecoach reveal that they may add up to three more annual music events in Indio, Calif. The neighbors’ heads explode, while everyone else cheers.

9. Bruce Springsteen: After President Obama uses “We Take Care of Our Own” at the close of his speech at the DNC, sales of the song skyrocket 409%. As if Obama didn’t already have The Boss’s vote.

10. Apple: The company finally realizes that Ping was rotten to the core and kills its music-sharing platform. Oh, and did you order your iPhone 5 yet?

Dave Matthews Band heads for its sixth No. 1 on the Billboard 200

Six debuts dominate the Top 10

Dave Matthews Band will score its sixth No. 1 album next week as “Away From The World” is a sure bet to come in at the top of the Billboard 200.

The set, produced by Steve Lillywhite, is on track to sell up to 275,000 copies, according to Hits Daily Double.

DMBis far from the only act making a Top 10 debut: As the fall rush begins, the top 5 spots will be occupied by new releases. Country co-ed quartet, Little Big Town, who scored its first No. 1 single with “Pontoon,” will top the country album chart and come in at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with “Tornado.” Bob Dylan’s “Tempest” looks strong for No. 3, though it is fending off a challenge from The Avett Brothers’ “The Carpenter.” Both are targeted to sell between 95,000 and 105,000 copies. Bowing at No. 5 will like be  The xx with “Coexist.”

Rounding out the rest of the top 10, this week’s No. 2 title, Imagine Dragons’ “Night Visions” will likely be at No. 6. This week’s No. 1, Matchbox Twenty’s “North” and “Now 43” are in a close race for the No. 7 spot, with both selling between 27,000 and 30,000 copies.

ZZ Top’s “La Futura” will be the Top 10’s sixth new entry at the  little old band from Texas’s first album in nine years is, appropriately enough, slated for No. 9 and Christian rapper Lecrae’s “Gravity”  drops from No. 3 to No. 10.

Have you got the horse trot move down yet? Your grandma does

Hey sexy lady, do you know how to rock it Gangnam Style yet? All the housewives are doing it... at least they are now after Psy’s appearance this morning on “Today.”

In case you’re not one of the 150 million people who have viewed this very fun video on YouTube, Psy is a South Korean artist whose song “Gangnam Style” has completely taken the world by storm.  Plus, the horse trot dance is a lot more fun than the “Macarena.” Britney Spears already has her moves down.

The band makes beautiful music together

The Avett Bros.’ music is often simple fare. They play into the low-key aspect of their sound with the video for “Live and Die,” from their new album, “The Carpenter.”

The video is composed totally of the quintet playing the song live in a rehearsal room, with Seth and Scott Avett’s harmonies shining through. The performance footage is interspersed with scenes of the band members talking outside, the Avett Brothers working out the song, Scott Avett drawing (he’s a very accomplished artist) and even Scott watering plants outside of a stately mansion.

Missy Elliott's "Triple Threat"

Look: Missy Elliott reveals 'Triple Threat' cover art

When can you hear the full song?

Missy Elliott has got sports on her mind. Earlier this week, she released a snippet of “Ninth Inning.”  And now, she’s switched from baseball to basketball. She just revealed the cover to “Triple Threat,” another song on her forthcoming new album.

The cover features someone in a basketball jersey with her name emblazoned across the shoulders and the words, “Triple Threat” where the numbers would be. On the accompanying basketball are the words “feat. Timbaland.” The producer is also on “Ninth Inning.”

We’ll have to wait until Sept. 17 to hear the full songs. That’s when Elliott will host a Ustream listening session to play both songs in their entirety. She will also answer questions from fans about the new album. That sounds like when we’ll hear about a release date and album title.

Christina Aguilera reveals details about new album, 'Lotus'

See when you can watch a sneak peek of the 'Your Body' video

Christina Aguilera’s new album, “Lotus,”  will come out in November, according to “The Voice” judge, who took to Twitter Wednesday to reveal details.

Among the other nuggets the Grammy-winning singer revealed:

*The album, her first since 2010’s “Bionic,” is called “Lotus” because a lotus "represents an unbreakable flower that survives under the hardest conditions and still thrives.”

*The inspiration for the album was "self-expression and freedom," she tweeted. "The album represents a rebirth for me."

*First single, “Your Body,” which leaked a few weeks ago, will be available for purchase on Friday. The single sleeve for the Max Martin-produced song features Aguilera wrapped in a diaphanous pink sheer dress with her arms overhead and lots of blonde extensions.

*A snippet of the music video for “Your Body” will air on “The Voice” on Monday, Sept. 17.

*Aguilera is currently listening to M83 and Frank Ocean.

Aguilera is in her third season as a coach on “The Voice.” At a press conference last month, “The Voice” producer Mark Burnett acknowledged that she and the other coaches, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and Cee Lo Green, may need to rotate out for a season to attend to their careers and touring, especially if the show continues to offer a fall and spring season.

Taylor Swift's 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' returns to No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

What record does it set?

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” gets back with the top of the Billboard Hot 100 this week as the Taylor Swift tune returns to No. 1.

“Never” and Flo Rida’s “Whistle” have been trading places for the pole position for the past few weeks. After “Whistle” returned to the summit last week, it falls to No. 3, as Maroon 5’s “One More Night” rises 3-2.

Swift’s song spends its third week at No. 1, making it the longest run atop the Billboard Hot 100 for a country song since Kenny Rogers’ “Lady,” written be Lionel Richie, held the top spot for six weeks in 1980, according to Billboard.

“Never” continues to gain in airplay, while also remaining at No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart. But that’s not Swift’s only chart triumph: “Ronan,” the charity single she debuted on Sept. 7’s “Stand Up For Cancer” televised benefit, enters the Hot 100 at No. 16. It is bolstered largely by digital sales: the song stands at No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart with sales of 211,000.

Returning to the Top 10, fun.’s “Some Nights” and Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” switch places, as Goulding rises 5-4.

Pink’s “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” soars back into the Top 10, perhaps bolstered by her MTV Video Music Awards, lifting 11-6. Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me”  featuring Big Sean leaps 9-7. Neon Trees’ “Everybody Talks”  slips 6-8 and Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City’s “Good Time” inches down 8-9.

The only new entry into the Top 10 is Alex Clare’s “Too Close,” which marks the singer’s first Top 10 hit. In addition to the former Alternative Songs chart topper’s use in a Bing commercial, “So You Think You Can Dance” played the song last week.

She strongly sells weak song

Pink’s new album,”The Truth About Love,”  doesn’t come out until next Tuesday, but between now and then a lyric video for a new track will debut every day on Vevo.

Today’s track, “Try” is a mid-tempo sparkler, whose melody is a bit reminiscent of “You And Your Hand.” Lyrically, the song is all getting up again after being kicked down hard. From the opening lines, “Ever wonder about what he’s doing/How it all turned to lies,” it’s clear that her man has gone astray. But, as she advises us, “Just because it burns/doesn’t mean you’re gonna die.”
