Last summer, Shailene Woodley's character, Mary Jane Watson, was dropped from Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." Now, it sounds as though even if Mary Jane makes her way into "Amazing Spider-Man 3," it won't be Woodley playing the her.

Speaking to MTV at the Sundance Film Festival where Woodley is present for "White Bird in a Blizzard," the actress stated, "I don't know anything, but seeing as how they picked up the next two 'Divergent' films, I don't know how I would keep my sanity with two big action films in one year." She did add to that the caveat, "But anything can happen."
"Divergent" is due out to arrive in theaters March 21st of this year, with "Insurgent" following in 2015 and "Allegiant" in 2016. The actress also has "The Fault in Our Stars" releasing later this year, and, presumably, is looking at other opportunities as well. "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" is currently slated for June 10, 2016.
We have not yet seen Mary Jane in the rebooted "Spider-Man" franchise—she was played by Kirsten Dunst in the Sam Raimi version—but with the third film in the "Amazing" iteration still a couple of years off, if they opt to add Mary Jane to the mix, there is presumably still some time to cast the role. Or, perhaps, there is time to work it into Woodley's schedule.
In the meanwhile, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" swings into theaters on May 2nd.
