Relativity Media is hooked on Joseph Gordon-Levitt's "Don Jon's Addiction."

The actor's feature directorial debut co-starring Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore and Tony Danza has been snapped up by the distributor in a massive $4 million deal that includes a $25 million P&A (prints and advertising) commitment for a wide 2,000-screen release this summer. The deal is an unprecedented one in the recent history of Sundance, where distributors are far more skittish about opening up their wallets than in eras past. Luckily for Levitt, "Addiction" became a hot acquisitions ticket following its Friday premiere at the fest.

In other Sundance news, the Weinstein Co. has picked up "Fruitvale," a drama based on the true story of a young man who died after being gunned down by police at a BART subway stop in the San Francisco Bay Area on New Year's Day 2009. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the price paid for the film - which stars  Michael B. Jordan ("The Wire," "Chronicle") as the shooting victim alongside a cast that includes Octavia Spencer, Melonie Diaz, Kevin Durand, Ahna O'Reilly and Chad Michael Murray - was a cool $2.5 million. Directed by 26-year-old USC film school grad Ryan Coogler, the film was the subject of a heated bidding war that included Paramount, Focus Features and Fox Searchlight.

The 2013 Sundance Film Festival runs through January 27.

Does that mean they're gonna spend 25 million on advertising? That seems impossible. They pay 4M for the movie. What are the 25M referring to?

Brian That's a pretty normal sum for a summer-time movie of that theatre count.

This is interesting considering all the reviews I have read of this film have been resoundingly negative.
