Rumors have swirled for at least a week, but "The View" confirmed on Twitter this morning that Rosie O'Donnell is returning to the show as a permanent panelist alongside moderator Whoopi Goldberg.

O'Donnell was also a panelist on "The View" from 2006 to 2007, when she abruptly left the series following a few episodes of heated panel dialogue with then co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Hasselbeck recently responded to the speculation about O'Donnell's return to "The View," saying on Fox News, "Talk about not securing the border. Here in comes to 'The View' the very woman who spit in the face of our military, spit in the face of her own network, and really in the face of a person who stood by her and had civilized debates for the time that she was there."

Fellow former panelist Joy Behar called Hasselbeck's remarks "hate-filled," noting that O'Donnell's own son is in military school.

O'Donnell and Goldberg are, as of now, the only panelists currently slated for the next season of "The View." Both Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd confirmed rumors that they would be departing "The View" this season.
