New 'Star Trek Into Darkness' featurette 'ups the ante' with J.J. Abrams and Chris Pine

Maybe they should've called it a "second look" featurette.
Director J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto speak in movie-poster quotes in a new 83-second video for "Star Trek Into Darkness," which despite being called a "first look" by the Paramount marketing team but doesn't exactly rate as such seeing as it's merely recycling footage from the last couple of trailers. But hey, who cares about that when you get to hear Abrams and his cast say words like "relentless," "stunningly," "magical" and "excited"?
Watch the full video above, then sound off with your thoughts in the comments.
"Star Trek Into Darkness" hits theaters on May 17.

February 20, 2013 at 11:27PM EST Reply to CommentI wish they had made their decisions about Star Wars two years ago. I'm interested in seeing what the next Star Trek film will be like without Abrams at the helm.
The Abrams fans will continue to eat this up with a spoon. But I am still waiting for a Star Trek film.
Intellectual Ninja Give it up. Abrams made the best Star Trek film since VI, or First Contact (if you're not that weird guy on YouTube).

February 20, 2013 at 11:57PM EST Reply to CommentI still can't believe Abrams & Co. had the balls to destroy the Enterprise in only their second film, with the ship being less than a year old in their chronological time.
I wonder if the ship in the third film will be their take on being closer to the TMP Enterprise.

Better.
Primogen Really? Here are some of the Star Trek films that *didn't* have Abrams at the helm: Star Trek: The Final Frontier, Star Trek: Generations, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: Nemesis. These are the films that tarnished Star Trek's reputation.

February 25, 2013 at 11:42AM EST Reply to CommentMy guess is that Chris Pine was getting snippy about how all the promos were heavily featuring Cumberbatch (rightfully so - who wouldn't with that voice?) and so they did this one. There's nothing new in this other than the fact that Cumberbatch's voice is not heard. I detect some territorial unhappiness on the part of the main cast. Just a guess, of course.
