Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson get ripped in new 'Pain & Gain' trailer: Watch

Michael Bay takes a crack at low-budget comedy

Before "Transformers 4" explodes your eardrums and your eyeballs, director Michael Bay is turning it down a few notches on his upcoming action-comedy "Pain & Gain." The brand new trailer, made available on Bay's web site, lets co-stars Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson flex their acting muscles.

Made for a reported $30 million, "Pain" is based on the true story of a group of Miami weightlifters who kidnapped a crooked millionaire, only for their finely-tuned plans to go horribly awry.

Perhaps surprisingly, it actually looks pretty funny. There are still plenty of guns, girls, cops, slow-motion shots and even a few explosions, but it will be interesting to see Bay slightly out of his element before he and Wahlberg reunite for the new-and-improved "TF4" or "Trans4mers" or whatever they end up calling it. The trailer is set to Sleigh Bells' "Kids," which is the perfect combination of ass-shaking fun and ground-shaking bombast.

Anthony Mackie, Tony Shalhoub, Ed Harris and Rebel Wilson also star.

"Pain & Gain" opens April 26, 2013.

What do you think of the trailer?

The cast / story seems engaging enough that I'll probably check it out. Could Bay's best film be his cheapest?
