Kurt Cobain memorial park benches up for auction
ABERDEEN, Wash. (AP) — Two benches that became an unofficial memorial to Kurt Cobain after the grunge rock singer killed himself 20 years ago are up for sale.
The benches sat in a Seattle park near Cobain's home and were covered with messages from fans that were written or carved on the wooden slats.
KXRO reports (http://bit.ly/1g2KLwb) the slats on the Viretta Park benches were replaced with new wood in 2008, but the old slats were saved from the landfill.
Now, the old marked-up slats are fixed to new frames, and the Cobain memorial benches are for sale at a Tacoma auction house, Hamilton's Antique & Estate Auctions.
