The second part of the “Divergent” trilogy cranks up the stakes and the set pieces. When we last left our heroine Tris (Shailene Woodley), she had thrown off the shackles of dystopian government and run away with her mentor turned lover Four (Theo James).

When “Insurgent” picks up, a new plot thread in the form of a MacGuffin puzzle box, wielded by the evil Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet), is introduced. The fugitives must band together with the undesirable element of this post-apocalyptic society to bring it down.

Even with all the explosions and declarations of vengeance, this just seems like the same plot we’ve seen a thousand times before. But who knows, maybe they'll surprise us.

Summit Entertainment's "Insurgent" swings into theaters on March 20, 2015.
