HitFix Predictions for 2013: 'Avengers 2,' Meryl Streep, 'Jersey Shore'
Plus: Is this the year the album dies?
Welcome to 2013. While a new year is full of exciting new surprises in the world of entertainment there are some things we know for sure: no Olympics, no presidential elections, no more "Dark Knight" and only eight more episodes of "Breaking Bad." Happily, "Walking Dead," "Mad Men," "Game of Thrones," "Iron Man 3" and new albums from Eminem and Lady Gaga are on the way. Still, a new year means an inevitable slew of predictions and the HitFix staff has eight that we feel pretty confidently about. Click on the story gallery below for our expectations for "Netflix," the future of the "Avengers" membership, Meryl Streep's Oscar chances and more.

January 2, 2013 at 1:55AM EST Reply to CommentI don't get it. All this talk about the Avengers cracking $1B. You know what other movies are in that club? The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight Rises. Skyfall. Alice in Wonderland. I predict we will start to see more and more movies cracking the $1B mark.
And Sony is doing pretty well with the SM franchise. Each film made well north of $700M. Even the last one which many considered an unnecessary reboot made almost $800M worldwide.
Besides Avengers Marvel really only has one other big earner in Iron Man. Thor and Captain America didn't even crack $500M.
I don't see what's in it for Sony to cross license their characters. Even if they lost FF and Daredevil I doubt Marvel could do much better with them.
And Drew, what's with your comment about the sad state of the X-Men franchise? Last I heard XM:FC did fairly well. It didn't light the box office on fire but it was comparable to Thor and Cap and I'd say there is big interest in the sequel coming up. I think the X-men franchise is doing pretty well.
gavin train I think that anything marvel and sony touch at the minute comic book wise will sell tickets like gold sells in value
January 2, 2013 at 5:19AM ESTKlarkKent I could absolutely see Thor and Captain America outgross their original films, not just because Avengers raised their status, but because the original films have continued to gain audiences on DVD/blu ray thanks to their quality.
January 2, 2013 at 2:35PM ESTAny good film associated with the Marvel Movie Universe will do booku bucks in the secondary market.
