Emma Stone of 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' thinks 'it would be kind of cool to be a villain'
With several villains and one superhero running around, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is pretty well stocked with the spandex-wearing set. Emma Stone, who returns to the role of Gwen Stacy which she originated in the 2012 reboot, may have great outfits in the new movie, but they are not of the spandex variety.
Sitting down with Stone, she made it quite clear that she’s okay with not being a superhero. In fact, what she said was, “I’ve never really wanted to wear a suit.” That is where Stone started with her answer, but, she then thought about it a little more, ruminated on what Dane DeHaan looked like in his full Green Goblin garb and amended it, “I think it would be kind of cool to be a villain.” Stone explained that “suiting up in that kind of thing would make you feel like you had entirely transformed.” So, villain yes, but she was still pretty set on not being a good guy, “Spider-Man essentially has to be naked under that suit… I wouldn’t want to do that.”
As with Garfield, Stone had clearly spent time thinking about who her character is, and why she acts the way she does. I won’t do justice giving her answer here, but the last question I asked Stone was in regards to Gwen Stacy’s winding up in trouble in the film and whether the film was taking a stand on Stacy’s “willful” nature. It is certainly worth the time it takes to hear Stone’s thoughts on the issue, and, in fact, given more time (and a desire to discuss spoilers, something which does not take place in the interview), I’m sure she could have offered up further thoughts on the subject.
“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” swings into theaters on Friday, May 2nd. Be sure to keep checking back this week, as we have interviews with Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx, and Marc Webb coming.
