Mogwai are a band from Scotland best known for making relentlessly loud, densely arranged, brutally in-your-face, gorgeous music in which any vocals are generally submerged to the point of inaudibility beneath pounding waves of post-rock guitar that alternate with passages of beautiful fragility. The bands sound has evolved and shifted somewhat over time; but the basic elements remain consistent.
The band's seventh studio album — Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will — is released on Sub Pop and was produced by studio whiz (and former drummer of the Delgados) Paul Savage. Early signs suggest this may be their best yet. Probably essential.
