For the second year, the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts -- which hands out their own local industry awards on their home turf -- held a separate ceremony in LA to honor their top international choices. And it turns out the Aussies like "Silver Linings Playbook." A lot.
The romantic dramedy, which led the AACTA nominee list with five mentions, won Best Picture, Director and Actress for Jennifer Lawrence, while the Board of Governors handed it two extra awards for the supporting performances of Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver. (You might detect some national favoritism in the award for Weaver, as well as in a couple of nominations -- notably Ben Lewin for Best Director.) "Lincoln" and "Django Unchained" were the only two other films to get a look-in at last Friday's ceremony, which was hosted by Russell Crowe. Full list of nominees and winners after the jump, and at The Circuit.

January 29, 2013 at 8:55PM EST Reply to CommentNow now, Mr. Lodge, I thought that Lewin actually did a superb directing job. If it weren't such a strong year for directorial achievements, he would certainly have cracked my own top 5.
Guy Lodge I'm not commenting on Lewin's direction. I'm merely suggesting his nationality can't have hurt.
January 29, 2013 at 9:01PM ESTJoe7827 You are absolutely correct, Guy. I'm merely suggesting that his recognition is perfectly acceptable on his merits alone.
January 30, 2013 at 4:42PM ESTBy the way, I got a kick out of the fact that Russell Crowe hosted it. He doesn't seem to me like someone who would host an awards show.

Mark It's stunning how to me how much vicious hate/backlash this movie has endured. I'm no giant fan, but I'm wondering how much Harvey correctly pushing this film harder than 2 more hip, internet film blogger type films in The Master and Django has to do with it. A lot of salty/bitter wounds I've sensed since he decided this would be his horse. Put yourself in his shoes, between The Master, Django and SLP, which one would you push to AMPAS? Please, tell me The Master or Django.
