You have to hand it to the Golden Globes. Barely had the chatter died down about the Academy's surprising choice of Oscar host than the HFPA chimed in with their own... and grabbed bigger headlines than Seth Macfarlane ever did. While the "Ted" man's appointment was welcomed in some quarters, others expressed concern that most viewers out in the real world don't know who he is -- a weak spot the Globes have cunningly zeroed in on by snapping up star comedy duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to continue the work done by Ricky Gervais in the last two years. With Fey a name many have suggested for the Oscar gig (she's presented at the big show twice), this likely ratings coup must really smart for AMPAS. I know which show I'm looking forward to more now. October 16, 2012 at 12:13PM EST Reply to CommentFamily Guy is rarely brilliant comedy like Seinfeld or Woody Allen at his best, etc. but it never descends to Fey and Poehler's pat, pandering, corny SNL pseudo-humor. They're a great choice PR-wise, but I don't anticipate much in the way of laughs or genuine surprises. They'll be too concerned with appearing indelicate and so resort to lame routines and lazy wisecracks.
really? Lazy wisecracks...? That reminds me of that famous commercial from the past 20 years...
October 16, 2012 at 1:40PM ESTUgh Give me a break. And give me pandering corny humor over repetative confrontational juvenile racist common denomenator garbage on Family guy any day.
October 16, 2012 at 4:19PM ESTsomeperson Everyone's name in this discussions is a frustrated expression. Also Family Guy is abysmal. At least Tina Fey and Amy Poehler don't applaud their own jokes.
October 16, 2012 at 7:43PM ESTMatthew Starr I loved Gervais's second go at it. I don't like Family Guy and was not really entertained by Ted either so I'm not expecting much. I also have hated SNL for pretty much the last decade. Host-wise for me it's Sacha Baron Cohen or bust every time.

October 16, 2012 at 10:18PM EST Reply to CommentI love Tina & despise Family Guy, but if either is a ratings coup it's CLEARLY Seth.
Family Guy's last episode got a 3.4 rating. 30 Rock, 1.3. Parks and Recreation, 1.9. So Family Guy is ahead of the 2 of them combined.
John G. That will not affect the Oscar or Globe ratings.
