'Mud' trailer with Matthew McConaughey reignites the fuse in advance of Sundance bow
Jeff Nichols's best film to date is primed for its North American debut
I caught Jeff Nichols's "Mud" yesterday in advance of its North American bow at Sundance next week and was bowled over. Over the moon. Full tilt in love with this movie, but I'll get into that during the festival.
Today, Roadside Attractions has released the first trailer for the film via Yahoo! Movies, which builds on its thriller aspects well enough but really isn't the most honest representation of what the film is. But that's fine. This will get people into the theater.
Check out the trailer above and stay tuned this week for further thoughts on the film and an interview with Nichols about his finest achievement to date. "Mud" opens in limited release April 26.

January 16, 2013 at 2:20PM EST Reply to CommentIs this gonna be your new "The Grey" Kris? Film you see at the beginning of the year that sticks all the way through.
GRubi To be fair, The Grey was released wide to the general public in January. Kris said this won't be released to the general public till late April. Wish I was at Cannes to see it early though.

January 17, 2013 at 8:30AM ESTReal shame that in a year that he pulled of Magic Mike and Killer Joe McConaughey hasn't received an oscar nod. Thought he should have at least beat out DeNiro, who is good but nothing special in Silver Linings Playbook.

January 16, 2013 at 10:51PM EST Reply to CommentThat looks REALLY good. McConaughey has always worked consistantly but it seems that in last few years he has really strived to breakaway from his rom-com fair and into strong acting territor; from the 'Lincoln Lawyer', 'Magic Mike' to 'Killer Joe' and 'Bernie' he has really been doing well.
Perhaps a year from now we'll see Wooderson clutching Oscar gold?

January 17, 2013 at 1:37AM EST Reply to CommentI remember two things about MUD's debut at Cannes last year: It and director Jeff Nchols got a standing ovation after the showing, and NYT movie writer Manola Darghis totally ignored it in her piece on American movies at Cannes--not a mention. I couldn't beleve it.

January 17, 2013 at 11:22AM EST Reply to CommentSo much MM this past year, and this film plus his upcoming film that he lost all the weight for. Awesome. Do you think he'll make it to the big stage next year?

January 17, 2013 at 1:29PM EST Reply to CommentTake Shelter was my 4th best movie of 2011, so I'm really looking forward for this one.
How good are the boys's acting? This looks like a great dramatic thriller (it reminds me of The Place Beyond the Pines.... and 2013 is beginning to look amazing).
Kristopher Tapley Tye Sheridan is phenomenal.

Aaron Plus she has the new Atom Egoyan film Devil's Knot coming out, about the West Memphis Three with Colin Firth. Maybe 2013 will be the Resurrection of Reese year, too.
