Is Jay-Z 'scoring' Baz Luhrmann’s 'The Great Gatsby?'
Apparently, the rapper and The Bullitts are -- wait, who's The Bullitts?
If you closely associate American classic "The Great Gatsby" with the term "dope," then you may have reason to get excited about the score Baz Lurmann's forthcoming film. In what appears to be a confirmation of a rumor that began swirling this fall, Jay-Z is on board to score the new adaptation, along with producer/songwriter The Bullitts.
"Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby! It is too DOPE for words!" said Jeymes Samuel, aka The Bullitts on Twitter.
Jay-Z has yet officially corroborate, though you can hear his voice all over the trailer to "Gatsby": his and Kanye West's Watch The Throne tune "No Church in the Wild" features in the clip.
But wait a minute: who is The Bullitts?

The U.K.-based artist is a collaborator with Jay Electronica, the producer/rapper who is signed to Hov's Roc Nation label. The Bullitts is also credited for co-producing two tracks on "Straight No Chaser," the album by Mr Hudson (who is signed to Kanye's GOOD Music label) and has released a handful of singles to iTunes, including "World Inside Your Rainbow," out in Q2 earlier this year. Listen to it below.
These singles have made it self-evident that The Bullitts has a bevy of famous friends: Rosario Dawson starred in his video for "Supercool" and his track "Close to You" not only features Electronica, but Lucy Liu as well. He has an album "The Die By Dawn" with a film component in the works, due in 2013, with spots from Dawson, Isaiah Washington, Giancarlo Esposito, Erykah Badu (who has a child with Electronica) and others.
Considering the May 10 release of the 3D "Gatsby" is still a ways out, it may be a little premature, particularly when its known that Jay-Z has his hands full with, say, the score to his Roc Nation signee/Will Smith's daughter Willow's movie venture in "Annie." This could also be a calculated move in the slow news days while Leonardo DiCaprio's in the limelight for another soundtrack-conscious little number. Are Hova and The Bullitts in it to make a track, a passage or an entire score?
The Bullitts and his team have not returned the request for comment as of press time.
