Two things in life are certain, death and taxes. Unless you live in the post-apocalyptic world of “The Walking Dead.” Then the only certainties in life are death and undeath. It’s just one long stream of killing off characters. Set it to “Yakety Sax” and the death count on AMC’s hit show would be the most morbid montage ever (and if someone hasn’t done that yet, please do).

When AMC set out to adapt Robert Kirkman’s graphic novels about a group of survivors eking out a new path in the aftermath of a zombie plague, no one expected it to be sunshine and lollipops. You can’t make a show about the walking dead without killing a few characters. But like “Game of Thrones,” it quickly became clear that no one in The Group was untouchable. The cold, decaying hand of death would not stop at parceling comeuppance to detestable characters that the audience longed to see turned into Walker Chow™. Decent people, likable characters, even children…any actor could be sent to the dreaded zombie make-up tent for their final curtain call.

From the very beginning of Season 1 all the way to the most recent episodes, HitFix takes a look back at some of the most shocking and game-changing deaths in “The Walking Dead.”
