Release date: July 19
Director: Robert Schwentke
Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Mary Louise-Parker
Why It's Terrible: I am very confused by Schwentke's career. How can the guy who made the charming "RED" also be the guy who made the awful "The Time-Traveler's Wife" and this truly misguided "Men In Black"/"Ghostbusters" hybrid? This thing has a tin ear for comedy, no real feel for action, and it manages to create one of the most uninteresting and half-hearted visions of the afterlife in film history. Jeff Bridges is in that stage of his career where he gets paid to show up and play variations on previous glories, so if you've ever wanted to see Rooster Cogburn shoot ghosts, you're in luck. The long sustained practical joke known as "Ryan Reynolds" seems to finally be drawing to a close. And when you strand Mary-Louise Parker in an office on a headset for your whole film, you should seriously reconsider your entire enterprise.
