Background: Even by Hollywood standards, the road to bring Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's controversial comic book series "Preacher" to the big screen has been difficult and convoluted. The adaptation has been pitched and developed multiple times as a film, a series of films and even an HBO series, with names like Rachel Talalay, Mark Steven Johnson and Sam Mendes involved.

Current Status: Still in development Hell. Most recently, D.J. Caruso (also once linked to "Y the Last Man") was announced as a director for Sony, but can the ultra-violent, blasphemous and utterly hilarious storyline ever make the transition to the big screen? It's an epic, profane story that begs for a "R" rating and would require a lot of financial and spiritual support from the studio. Are they willing to go the distance? We have little faith.
