Background: A remake of the 1976 sci-fi hit -- depicting a future world in which no one is allowed to live past 30 -- was on Bryan Singer's plate before "Superman Returns" in 2006. It came clue to fruition, but ended up in limbo. After he eventually left the project, a number of directors hopped on the Carousel, but no one made it past a few months of pre-production.
Current Status: The idea of a remake was recently revived when Nicholas Winding Refn was announced as the somewhat unorthodox choice to direct. Since Refn doesn't go anywhere these days without his "Drive" star Ryan Gosling (the two are also teaming on "Only God Forgives"), the actor is reportedly in talks to headline the film. Now, we wait.
