Wet Hot American Summer 2
Background: Fans of the cult favorite were overjoyed when star/co-writer Michael Showalter revealed a follow-up was "100%" happening during an interview this past February, even more so at his claim that "the whole gang" (i.e. the entire original cast, which includes Paul Rudd, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Amy Poehler and Elizabeth Banks) would be reprising their roles. Director David Wain had previously floated the idea of helming a prequel featuring the same actors (already intentionally age-inappropriate at the time of the first film's 2001 release) playing younger versions of their characters despite having aged 10 years, but perhaps the idea ultimately felt too outlandish even for him.
Current status: While a number of players involved in the original production - including Showalter, Wain and Rudd - have confirmed that a sequel is in the works, the latter two have more immediate concerns - this month they're slated to go into production on rom-com parody "They Came Together" co-starring Amy Poehler. In other words, it might be awhile before we see further movement here.
