David Benioff and DB Weiss are making 'Game of Thrones' their own
In the first season, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss maintained an almost slavish devotion to the first book of George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice & Fire" series. As the series progresses, they're beginning to take just a bit more license. Don't worry, fans! They aren't destroying core characters or adding ridiculous new characters or spinning the narrative off in absurd new directions involving vampires and werewolves. They are, however, taking liberty with certain characters. Margaery Tyrell, for example, isn't the way she was in the books, but -- dare we say it -- she may be more interesting. There are more new scenes and expanded scenes and after working with Martin's prose for this long, Benioff and Weiss have integrated those scenes so seamlessly that non-readers definitely won't notice and readers almost certainly won't be offended.
