Who should play Whitney Houston's role in 'The Bodyguard' remake?
Can anyone fill the Queen of the NIght's tiara?
Who can replace the Queen of the Night?
Without Whitney Houston, there would be no “Bodyguard,” or rather, there would be no chance of success for “The Bodyguard.” As Warner Bros. plots a remake of the 1992 love story and drama -- according to Deadline -- the search is on for the perfect diva to settle wear those show-stopping shoes.
So let the guessing game begin. As much as Jennifer Lopez may love to run from her “American Idol” gig, or Mariah Carey to forget “Glitter” ever happened or Madonna to trade Eva Peron for Rachel Marron, the movie specifies a much younger starlet.
In the following pages we parse through the potentials, with potential for onscreen magic and an outstanding soundtrack.
Who would you pick? Who else should be considered?

February 24, 2011 at 9:16AM EST Reply to CommentSeriously, how about Miley Cyrus? Not because she's a particularly good actress, or good singer, but I think having the tough bodyguard being pushed around by a spoiled 17-year-old superstar with aggressive stage parents would be all kinds of fun.
Val Whitney Houston wasn't a particularly good actress, either.

February 24, 2011 at 11:21AM EST Reply to CommentJennifer Hudson. She's about the same age Whitney was in the original, and definitely has the chops to pull off the singing and is clearly a better actress than Houston ever dreamed of being.
Eloise good idea

February 24, 2011 at 12:02PM EST Reply to CommentWhitney Houston was already a historic diva when she made the Bodyguard. She already had the biggest selling debut album ever and then followed it with the first album by a female to ever debut at no.1, not to mention that she was already one of the most respect female vocalists of all-time. She EARNED the role, it was appropriate. Sorry, but there's no young female out there who can come close, any choice would be an insult to Whitney.
I seem to remember that project had originally conceived for Barbara Steisand and Steve McQueen. You're right, the role should go to an established star, not an up-and-comer.
February 24, 2011 at 3:33PM ESTDeVron I'm not sure about the male lead but in an interview, the screenwriter said he wrote the script in 70s and orginally intended it for Diana Ross. One of the great things about the movie was to have a white male lead and a black female lead and no addressing the race during their romantic encounters. Therefore, I think they should go with Beyonce or Jennifer Hudson. They are the only two who come close to filling Whitney Houston's shoes in terms of DIVA.

February 24, 2011 at 6:17PM EST Reply to CommentWHY REMAKE THIS MOVIE???? Seriously, it is still a somewhat recent movie. I mean they could have Kevin Costner reprise his role and it would still be believable for him I guess.
But IF I had to pick someone in the same arena as Whitney, it is either Beyonce or Jennifer Hudson.

March 6, 2011 at 2:23AM EST Reply to CommentMaybe someone will finally get smart and make the ultimate remake anti-film. Lady Gaga is the new "diva" and… his(?) bodyguard misses his boat in a world full of undrinkable ocean water. If only the bodyguard could have gone to the club in time to save Gaga who gets kidnapped by Indians and believes he is Indian because his hair is messed up; but no, it's too late – Gaga gets his brains blown out, his necklace explodes, pearls everywhere, and the bodyguard moves on to more important issues like the war in Korea. Here's the twist: Daft Punk does the soundtrack in the style John Williams in the style of Max Steiner. Hey remember that espionage flick in the '70s people got suckered into seeing when they couldn't get into the long lines of Jaws, but it was "okay," because… it had a shark in it? Maybe someone could create a remake of that. They could call it "The Deep and the Furious." We can watch fast boats and… faster girls in bikinis in slow-motion and pretend we've evolved all these years.
johnnycage I'm sure you thought that was funny while you were typing it...

March 6, 2011 at 1:18PM EST Reply to CommentJennifer Hudson is by far and away the most logical, obvious choice if they want the role to be played by someone who is a decent actor and can sing as well. There's a reason Hudson won the Oscar for Dreamgirls and Beyonce came up with...nothing. There is a lot of potential if they can get Hudson in the movie with a good star at her side.

March 6, 2011 at 2:46PM EST Reply to CommentWell, Beyoncè is perfect for the role.
But I think there are so many old movies it would be far more interesting to remake.

March 7, 2011 at 7:31AM EST Reply to CommentAs long as it's not someone completely ridiculous who can't act OR sing (ahem, Miley Cyrus) or as long as it's not someone completely clueless like Zoe Zaldana. I doubt I'll waste money or time on it either way- I loved the original. Forget Whitney, who the hell could replace Kevin Costner?!
March 7, 2011 at 6:41PM EST Reply to CommentThat would be a waste of time and money to do such a thing. Don't touch good movies for today's modern world.
