Who should direct 'Catching Fire' and why
We name some top contenders for the choice gig now that Gary Ross has exited
Debra Granik
Best known for: "Winter's Bone" (pictured), "Down to the Bone"
Pros: She directed Jennifer Lawrence's breakout Oscar-nominated performance in "Winter's Bone," so she clearly brings out the best in the "Hunger Games" franchise's most important player. With just two small indie films under her belt, she's shown a keen visual sense and a deep appreciation and understanding of telling women's stories with honesty and empathy.
Cons: Can she actually make the leap from the DIY world of low budget indies to safeguarding a studio's golden goose? Honestly, if she's interested and has the right pitch, she could probably land the gig.
