Whitney, Pitbull release new music in time for Grammy cutoff
Plus: album releases from The Used, Chevelle, Trey Songz and more
Mondays: The new Tuesdays, for Grammy noms
Notice something a little weird this week? Many of the week's top releases are in stores on Monday, Aug. 31, instead of the usual Tuesday release date.
That's because the cut-off for Grammy eligibility is Aug. 31, which means in order for voters to consider a title viable, it had to be available on line and in stores by Aug. 31. So labels went into overdrive to make sure that any artist whose album they wanted considered for the Grammys-new CDs from folks like Whitney Houston, John Fogerty and Pitbull -- be in stores on Monday.
The Grammys moved up the eligibility cut off by one month this year (it's normally Oct. 1-Sept. 30) since the 2010 Grammys take place earlier than normal so as not to clash with the Winter Olympics. We won't see this happen again.
