Best known for: "Thor," "Prometheus," BBC One's "Luther"
For him: Elba is no doubt one of the biggest names on his list, recently gaining mainstream recognition for his Golden Globe-winning turn in the BBC One crime drama "Luther" and in several major blockbusters including Marvel's "Thor" franchise. His 6'3"-inch frame matches his imposing screen presence - a perfect combo for the character - and as a Brit he also hews closer to the comic-book Blade's U.K. origins (the character was reinterpreted as an African-American superhero in the Snipes films).
Against him: Elba will be turning 41 this year, which could be older than Marvel is looking for. Also, his involvement in Marvel's "Thor" franchise (he's set to reprise the role of Heimdall in the upcoming sequel) could be a deal-breaker.
