When the next big thing isn't
Shoulda been stars: Who made the trainwreck list?
A fate all too common in Hollywood
Hollywood is littered with the false promises of future stars that never where. From mistaken Oscar winners (Mira Sorvino), to leading men who aren't meant to break out (Chris Evans) to teen stars that couldn't find work as adults (Rachel Leigh Cook), the next big thing usually isn't. Here's a look at some of the wannabes who should have become household names over the past decade or so, but didn't.

June 16, 2009 at 12:06PM EST Reply to Commentlol....whoever wrote this is kind of retarded. "Even a good thriller like "Vacancy" was still a dud thanks to his participation.". Vacancy was one of the worst movies I've seen in recent memory. (of course, most of this article is retarded, but that's the standout for me)

June 16, 2009 at 12:10PM EST Reply to CommentI'd like ad this website to your "When the next big thing isn't" list. It showed initial promise but quickly become an EW clone with less content.

June 16, 2009 at 5:40PM EST Reply to CommentThe problem with this list: it looks at box offece and nothing else. Cases in point: Luke Wilson was in Idiotcracy. Yes, it was buried by the studio, but remembered fondly by viewers and Mike Judge followers dug it. Gretchen Mol starred in The Notorious Betty Page, a well-received HBO movie about the SM legend. She might have even been nominated for an Emmy; I can't remember. Also, the aforementioned Mena Suvari. Seeing how this is not Entertainment Weekly, these examples should count for something.
