These poor, poor actors...
There is nothing like the lack of importance of yet another Hollywood Film Awards show. Coming back every year like that flu bug you know you just can't avoid, this "pseudo" awards event sees itself as a "kick-off" to awards season (which in fact is really Telluride and Toronto), but it only ends up giving you a headache and making you sick to your stomach. Take for example the posse to your left, Anton Yelchin, Shailene Woodley, Andrea Riseborough, Amber Heard and Elle Fanning. All five were named Hollywood Spotlight Award winners (whatever the hell that means) and now have garish gold trophies to prove it. Besides Heard, who has had a tough year with the bomb "Drive Angry 3D" and the quick cancellation of "Playboy Club" and probably could use a fun night out on the town, the other actors are likely wondering "What am I even doing here? Does this really help my movie or our awards season chances?" Well, it certainly helps populate snarky galleries like this, but it certainly doesn't help with much else. In fact, "winner" Michelle Williams probably did more to help her cause and her film, "My Week with Marilyn," by going to the packed SAG Q&A she raced to after accepting this award.
With that in mind and assuming you have a good sense of humor (and you publicists know who you are), let's consider what these stars were really thinking as they stepped in front of the photographers at the 2011 Hollywood Film "Awards."
