The family massacre in "The Hills Have Eyes"
The 1977 shocker's most horrifying segment sees a cannibalistic clan nearly wiping out an All-American family in a brutally prolonged sequence of torture and madness ("That's not my Bob," the robed matriarch babbles at her husband's charred remains). Craven's willingness to "go there" remained intact five years after the release of "Last House," and for his trouble the MPAA awarded his film with their dreaded "X" rating.
