29. "You're the Worst"
Stephen Falk's FX comedy (moving appropriately to FXX for Season 2) roared out of the gate with a slew of sex scenes as graphic as anything you'll ever see on basic cable and with a pair of romantic leads as seemingly awful and destined for a romantic train wreck as any you could ever hope to meet (or avoid). And then, over 10 episodes, "You're the Worst" made audiences fall in love with Jimmy and Gretchen (not to mention Edgar and Lindsay), without ever selling out the idiosyncratic prickliness of either character. It helps that Chris Geere and, particularly, Aya Cash (not to mention Desmin Borges and Kether Donohue) were just great finds, but Falk and his writers deserve much credit for remaining resolutely uncompromised in their cynical, but still oddly optimistic worldview.
