I was fighting recency bias for a couple shows in my Top 10 and, as a result, I pushed "Transparent" to the wrong side of the bubble and I'm pretty sure I'll eventually regret that choice. Jill Soloway's Amazon series features Jeffrey Tambor in a performance that, if there's an iota of justice in the world, will earn the beloved character actor his first Emmy come September. [Gaby Hoffman really should get at least a nomination as well.] It's the rare family series in which not only do the actors look like they could plausibly be related, but they interact with a chemistry that feels immediately and totally authentic. Like "Orange Is The New Black" and "Shameless" and even "Review," "Transparent" is a series that can go from broadly comedic to heartbreaking in a matter of seconds and its specificity of location, of religion, of gender and sexuality is close to unrivaled. Yeah, "Transparent" probably should have made my Top 10. If it comes back strong in 2015, I'll remember I owe it one.
