BubbleWatch: The CW's '"Nikita'
SHOW: "Nikita" (The CW)
IN ITS FAVOR: After a dismal start to its season airing on Fridays at 9 p.m., "Nikita" shifted back to its old 8 p.m. home and numbers promptly rose dramatically. Airing on a difficult night, "Nikita" often does better overall numbers than most of the shows that are considered to be on The CW's bubble. In addition, "Nikita" has a small, but passionate fanbase and a reasonable pocket of critical support suggesting (a suggestion I agree with) that this current season has seen some creative growth.
AGAINST IT: The CW is big on emphasizing the things that can't be read in traditional numbers, so I don't know what "Nikita" does in terms of online viewership and iTunes downloads and whatnot. But when you dig below the surface, the numbers get less encouraging for "Nikita." It's slightly weaker in The CW's core demo than several other bubble shows and when you look at DVR figures, "Nikita" gets a strikingly small bump (only 30 percent overall and 25 percent in the demo), well below the DVR numbers for the other bubble shows.
OUR TOTALLY UNINFORMED GUESS: There's something comfortingly reliable about what "Nikita" had done on Fridays over the past two years. It's almost impossible to imagine it being cancelled outright, but it's easy to imagine the rumored limited final season pick-up. Figure 13 more episodes?
FINAL VERDICT: Renewed!
