BubbleWatch: ABC's 'Missing'
SHOW: "Missing" (ABC)
IN ITS FAVOR: Ashley Judd has been a strong defender and promoter of the show and even before its premiere, she was excited about ideas for a second season. After taking big drops after its initial airings, "Missing" has leveled off with a viewership level that isn't so horrible given the insane competition in the Thursday 8 p.m. hour. Also, while we don't have figures, "Missing" was designed to play well internationally, which almost makes domestic ratings an afterthought.
AGAINST IT: Demo numbers for "Missing" have been awful. The show skews way older than ABC could possibly want in the valuable Thursday slot and there hasn't been any sign of growth, including weak DVR numbers.
OUR TOTALLY UNINFORMED GUESS: This is a New Math show. If ABC sees value to "Missing" internationally, it could get renewed, especially since Judd will only do a short season of episodes, which will put a cap on cost and commitment. ABC could then bury the show wherever at midseason. We're just not privy to those international figures, so "No" seems like a logical guess, until it turns out that "Missing" is massive in Croatia.
