BubbleWatch: ABC's 'Mr. Sunshine'
SHOW: "Mr. Sunshine" (ABC)
IN ITS FAVOR: With Matthew Perry, Allison Janney, Andrea Anders, Nate Torrence, James Lesure and more, this is a cast you want to keep on your network. Plus, in its short run, "Mr. Sunshine" displayed an ability to lure big-name guest stars, which never hurts for promotional purposes. There was also a feeling that the show was a creative work-in-progress and that later episodes were closer to an idea tone than earlier episodes.
AGAINST IT: The comedy's premiere drew over 10.5 million viewers and a great demo rating. Its finale drew 4.6 million viewers and a dismal demo rating. If you look at the numbers, there's no way to logically suggest any momentum or viewer loyalty.
OUR TOTALLY UNINFORMED GUESS: If ABC sticks with one comedy night and only two-hours of comedy, "Mr. Sunshine" is dead. If ABC expands -- and signs are that ABC wouldn't mind expanding -- its hopes improve markedly. Our hunch? Despite the star-power, "Mr. Sunshine" doesn't make the cut.
Final Verdict: ABC canceled "Mr. Sunshine."
